Thiophene and bioisostere derivatives as new MMP12 inhibitors.

A new MMP12 inhibitor series has been identified containing a thiophene moiety. Different approaches have been considered to replace this potential toxicophore. α-Fluorothiophene derivatives were the most interesting compounds.
