Support to the Safe Motherhood Programme in Nepal: an integrated approach.

Evidence gathered from 1997 to 2006 indicates progress in reducing maternal mortality in Nepal, but public health services are still constrained by resource and staff shortages, especially in rural areas. The five-year Support to the Safe Motherhood Programme builds on the experience of the Nepal Safer Motherhood Project (1997-2004). It is working with the Government of Nepal to build capacity to institute a minimum package of essential maternity services, linking evidence-based policy development with health system strengthening.

Structure and synthesis of SSZ-63: toward an ordered form of zeolite beta.

The synthesis, characterization, and structure elucidation of the borosilicate zeolite SSZ-63 are described. SSZ-63 is synthesized using the 1-cyclodecyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium cation as a structure-directing agent. The structural model for SSZ-63 was determined by comparison of its powder X-ray diffraction pattern with those of zeolite beta and its polytype structures.

Asymmetric induction during electron transfer mediated photoreduction of carbonyl compounds: role of zeolites.

Photochemistry of 17 aryl alkyl ketones included within cation exchanged zeolites has been examined. In solution five of the 17 ketones undergo intramolecular hydrogen abstraction reaction even in the presence of a chiral amine and the rest are photoreduced to the corresponding alcohol. Within zeolites all 17 ketones yielded in presence of a chiral amine, the corresponding alcohol as the major product.

Zeolite-coated quartz fibers as media for photochemical and photophysical studies.

Zeolite-coated optical fibers are useful as media to carry out asymmetric photochemical reactions and for sensing polyaromatic compounds.
