Background: As the field of surgery continues to evolve, subspecialty training is fast becoming integral to surgical education. Presently, orthopaedic surgery residents have opportunities to subspecialise in different areas.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the factors affecting the choice of desired subspecialties amongst orthopaedic surgery residents in southern Nigeria.

Awareness of Hazard Risks and Prevention Among Orthopaedic Surgery Residents in South East Nigeria.

Background: Orthopaedic surgery is a specialty that deals with a lot of complex and delicate procedures which involve the use of power tools as well as handling of sharp tools and bony spicules, which, among other things, expose trainees to day-to-day hazards which can predispose them to an array of health challenges and burden the health sector. Knowledge of different measures in minimizing some of these risks can go a long way to saving lives and resources.

Objectives: This study aims to determine the level of awareness among orthopaedic surgical residents about various hazards and risks and to ascertain their views on the prevention thereof to guide certain decision-making concerning surgical hazard risk reduction.

Sideswipe Injury of the Knee: The New Face of an Old Foe?

The term "sideswipe injury" has become synonymous and used interchangeably with the term "traffic elbow." However, with the continuous rise in the use of the tricycle as a means of public transportation in some developing countries, a rise in sideswipe injuries of various severities is being experienced. We report a case of sideswipe injury to the left knee region of a 45-year-old female who was a passenger in the backseat of a tricycle.

Cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric evaluation of the Yoruba version of Oswestry disability index.

Introduction: Low-Back Pain (LBP) is a common public health problem that is often worsened by maladaptive beliefs and disability. Influence of Mckenzie protocol and two modes of endurance exercises on health-related quality of life of patients with long-term mechanical low-back pain.

Introduction: Long-term Mechanical Low-Back Pain (LMLBP) negatively impacts on patients' physical capacity and quality of life. This study investigated the relationship between Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and pain intensity, and the influence of static and dynamic back extensors' endurance exercises on HRQoL in Nigerian patients with LMLBP treated with the McKenzie Protocol (MP).

Methods: A single-blind controlled trial involving 84 patients who received treatment thrice weekly for eight weeks was conducted.
