Seeking new and efficient thermoelectric materials requires a detailed comprehension of chemical bonding and structure in solids at microscopic levels, which dictates their intriguing physical and chemical properties. Herein, we investigate the influence of local structural distortion on the thermoelectric properties of TlCuS, a layered metal sulfide featuring edge-shared Cu-S tetrahedra within CuS layers. While powder X-ray diffraction suggests average crystallographic symmetry with no distortion in CuS tetrahedra, the synchrotron X-ray pair distribution function experiment exposes concealed local symmetry breaking, with dynamic off-centering distortions of the CuS tetrahedra.

Nanoscale hybrid inorganic-organic multilayers are attractive for accessing emergent phenomena and properties through superposition of nanomolecularly-induced interface effects for diverse applications. Here, we demonstrate the effects of interfacial molecular nanolayers (MNLs) of organo-diphosphonates on the growth and stability of titania nanolayers during the synthesis of titania/MNL multilayers by sequential atomic layer deposition and single-cycle molecular layer deposition. Interfacial organo-diphosphonate MNLs result in ∼20-40% slower growth of amorphous titania nanolayers and inhibit anatase nanocrystal formation from them when compared to amorphous titania grown without MNLs.

Background: Mutations in the DYNC1H1 gene have been linked to multiple neurologic syndromes with a multitude of clinical manifestations, both ocular and non-ocular. Previous case reports have outlined various ocular phenotypes, including cataracts of congenital onset, infantile onset, and adult onset with lack of further ophthalmologic detail.

Case Presentation: Our case report outlines, in more detail, a 24-month-old male with a heterozygous mutation in the DYNC1H1 gene who developed a white, intumescent cataract in his left eye and a posterior subcapsular cataract in his right eye with evidence of progressive axial myopia.

Background: We reported that in our previous study that wearing intermittent occlusion therapy glasses (IO-therapy) for 4 hours (h) was non-inferior to patching for 2 h in 3 to 8-year-old children with amblyopia. We hypothesize that an intense regimen of 12-h IO-therapy per day for 4 weeks could be as effective as the standard regimen of 4-h IO-therapy per day for 12 weeks in treating moderate amblyopia in 3 to 8-year-old children.

Methods/design: A total of 56 children between 3 and 8 years of age with amblyopia in association with anisometropia and/or strabismus will be enrolled.
