Methods: Patients with a new diagnosis of non-tumoural acute and acute-on-chronic PVT between January 2021 and January 2024 (aged ≥ 18 years) in those without/with cirrhosis (Child-Pugh (CP)-A/B/C ≤ 10) were started on dabigatran and followed and compared with those on vitamin K antagonist (VKA) and untreated individuals.
Results: Dabigatran was prescribed in 119 patients with PVT type 1 (61, 51.
Background And Aims: Machine learning (ML) can identify the hidden patterns without hypothesis in heterogeneous diseases like acute-on-chronic live failure (ACLF). We employed ML to describe and predict yet unknown clusters in ACLF.
Methods: Clinical data of 1568 patients with ACLF from a tertiary care centre (2015-2023) were subjected to distance-, density- and model-based clustering algorithms.
Organ transplantation is the primary therapy for organ failure caused by telomere biology disorder (TBD). We describe the first documented case of simultaneous liver and kidney transplantation (SLKTx) for TBD, although the diagnosis of TBD was reached only three months following SLKTx. The patient was born prematurely, displayed growth retardation, and developed chronic kidney and liver diseases.

We analyzed the predictors of terlipressin response and mortality using point-of-care echocardiography (POC-Echo) and cardiac and renal biomarkers.
Approach: Between December 2021 and January 2023, patients with HRS-AKI were assessed with POC-Echo and lung ultrasound within 6 hours of admission, at the time of starting terlipressin (48 h), and at 72 hours.
Background: Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) in acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. We conducted a prospective, randomized controlled clinical trial to study the efficacy of intravenous branched chain amino acids (IV-BCAA) with lactulose versus lactulose alone for improvement in HE at 24 h, day 3, and day 7. The primary outcome was an improvement in encephalopathy by ≥ 1 grade at 72 h.

Traditional markers evaluate anti-tubercular drug-induced liver injury (AT-DILI). However, these markers have certain limitations and studies are in progress to characterize AT-DILI at an early stage. In the present study, 40 patients were categorized and equally distributed into healthy controls, newly diagnosed tuberculosis (TB), TB without hepatotoxicity and TB with hepatotoxicity groups based on their conventional liver function tests.

Aims: To prospectively study the association of endogenous heparinoids and coagulation dysfunction with variceal rebleeding and outcome in cirrhosis.
Methods: Consecutive patients were assessed with conventional coagulation tests, SONOCLOT™ [(global(gb) and heparinase(h) treated] and factors VII, VIII, XIII, X, tissue plasminogen activator, and plasminogen activator inhibitor ELISA assays in a university hospital.
Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with neuropsychiatric changes. Also, patients with cirrhosis may develop overt or minimal hepatic encephalopathy. Sustained virological response (SVR) with direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) may improve the neuropsychiatric manifestations and quality of life (QoL).

Background & Aims: Despite rapidly increasing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) prevalence, providers' knowledge may be limited. We assessed NAFLD knowledge and associated factors among physicians of different specialties globally.
Methods: NAFLD knowledge surveys containing 54 and 59 questions covering 3 domains (epidemiology/pathogenesis, diagnostics, and treatment) were completed electronically by hepatologists, gastroenterologists (GEs), endocrinologists (ENDOs), and primary care physicians (PCPs) from 40 countries comprising 5 Global Burden of Disease super-regions.
Background: Etiology of and outcomes following idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI) vary geographically. We conducted a prospective study of DILI in India, from 2013 to 2018 and summarize the causes, clinical features, outcomes and predictors of mortality.
Methods: We enrolled patients with DILI using international DILI expert working group criteria and Roussel Uclaf causality assessment method.
Hypercalcemia is a rare metabolic abnormality seen in patients with cirrhosis and is usually considered a paraneoplastic manifestation of hepatocellular carcinoma. Idiopathic hypercalcemia in cirrhosis is a diagnosis of exclusion, which is considered when all the causes of hypercalcemia have been ruled out. Here, we report a rare case of idiopathic hypercalcemia presenting as acute kidney injury in a case of decompensated cirrhosis, managed with adequate hydration and injection of ibandronate and intranasal calcitonin, leading to the normalization of serum calcium and resolution of acute kidney injury.

The present study was conducted to compare the outcome of treatment with RFA alone and RFA with alcohol as ablative technique in patients with small hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), who were not candidates for surgery.
Methods: Fifty patients with chronic liver disease and concurrent HCC were enrolled in this prospective study.
Background: Tubercular involvement of the liver is uncommon, but is a serious consideration in differential diagnosis of granulomatous conditions, especially in endemic regions like India.
Objective: To assess the role of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) done on archival cytological material in diagnosing tuberculosis (TB) in cases reported as granulomatous inflammation/TB in liver lesions.
Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective study including a total of 17 cases of liver space-occupying lesions (SOLs) reported as granulomatous inflammation ( = 12) and TB ( = 5).
Background/aim: This study intends to determine the correlation of a patient's hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) measurement with six factors: Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) score, model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score, presence of ascites, size of varices, presence of variceal bleeding, and an etiology of cirrhosis. The study also aims to identify the predictors of higher HVPG measurements that can indirectly affect the prognosis of cirrhotic patients.
Patients And Methods: Thirty patients diagnosed with cirrhosis were enrolled prospectively and each patient's HVPG level was measured by the transjugular catheterization of the right or middle hepatic vein.
Introduction: Ultrasound is usually the first diagnostic investigation for the assessment of liver lesions. Apart from conventional sonography (CS), new grey-scale sonographic techniques have been developed which have increased the application of ultrasound in liver imaging. The present study was undertaken to compare image quality of CS, real-time compound sonography (RTCS), tissue harmonic sonography (THS) and tissue harmonic compound sonography (THCS) in focal liver lesions.
