Both provider- and protocol-driven electrolyte replacement have been linked to the over-prescription of ubiquitous electrolytes. Here, we describe the development and retrospective validation of a data-driven clinical decision support tool that uses reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms to recommend patient-tailored electrolyte replacement policies for ICU patients. We used electronic health records (EHR) data that originated from two institutions (UPHS; MIMIC-IV).

Article Synopsis
  • Molecular tagging uses DNA or other molecules to label objects when traditional methods like RFID tags and QR codes aren't suitable.
  • Porcupine is a fast, portable system that reads DNA-based tags quickly with a nanopore device, using the presence or absence of unique DNA strands to represent digital information (molecular bits or molbits).
  • It enhances tag durability and readout efficiency by preparing and dehydrating molbits during assembly, leading to a high-accuracy, extensible tagging system capable of creating distinct barcodes.
