Background: Persistent infection with high-risk (HR) HPV genotypes has been associated with cervical cancer, the third cancer affecting women in Oman with a crude incidence rate of 4.7 and mortality rate of 2.5 respectively.

Inter-observer agreement in reporting HER 2 Neu protein over expression by immunohistochemistry.

Introduction: HER 2 Neu protein overexpression and its detection by immunohistochemistry (IHC) has become quiet critical because of its relevance in regards to Herceptin treatment. This peer review was done at a tertiary care center, which aimed at determining the inter-observer variation among five pathologists and evaluating the degree of agreement between them.

Aims: The aim of our study was to determine the reproducibility of HER 2 Neu system of reporting in breast cancer cases and determine inter-observer variability among five pathologists at a tertiary care center.

Extraosseous Ewing sarcoma of the vagina: a rare entity.

Ewing sarcoma, a highly malignant neoplasm of the bone, usually occurs during childhood. About 15% are extraosseous. The Ewing family of tumors (EFTs) are extremely rare in the vagina.

Successful term pregnancies after laparoscopic excision of poorly differentiated Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor of the ovary.

Ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors are rare sex cord-stromal tumors, accounting for less than 1% of ovarian tumors. Majority of these tumors are benign and unilateral, only 3-5% are bilateral. These patients present with clinical features of virilization due to excessive secretion of testosterone from the tumor, however 50% may have no endocrine symptoms.

A case of gastric and duodenal strongyloidiasis.

Strongyloides stercoralis is a nematode parasite which causes a protracted asymptomatic intestinal infection. It is considered a life threatening condition in immunocompromised patients when hyperinfection is associated with disseminated disease. The diagnosis by routine stool examination is very limited since the larval output in stools is very low.

We report the case of a 57-year-old male physician who presented with a life threatening secretory and refractory diarrhoea of around 20 L/day. This was complicated by severe hypotension, hypokalaemia, hypercalcaemia, renal failure requiring dialysis, metabolic acidosis, cardiorespiratory arrest and ventilation for 12 days. His diarrhoea responded immediately to the first dose of a therapeutic trial of subcutaneous octreotide 100 mcg 8 hourly which was started on clinical grounds alone before any investigations were carried out.

Multiple Bone Metastases in a Patient with Differentiated Thyroid Cancer (DTC): Complete resolution following thyroidectomy and four ablation doses of I-131.

Multiple bone metastases from a differentiated thyroid cancer are usually incurable. We report the case of a young Omani woman who presented with 8 discrete skeletal lesions three years after a total thyroidectomy. Following four ablation doses of I-131 she has remained in clinical and biochemical remission for over five years.

Pancreatic metastasis from colon carcinoma nine years after a hemicolectomy managed by distal pancreatectomy. A review of the literature regarding the role and outcome of pancreatic resection for colorectal metastasis.

Context: Pancreatic metastasis from colorectal malignancy is rare and accounts for less than 2% of all pancreatic metastases. A case of colonic metastasis to the pancreas is reported and the literature is reviewed to assess the role and outcome of pancreatic resection for metastatic tumors from colorectal malignancy.

Crohn's disease of the appendix with enterocutaneous fistula post-appendicectomy: An approach to management.

Context: Isolated involvement of the appendix in Crohn's disease is reported to be 0.2% to 1.8%, and is usually associated with ileocaecal Crohn's disease in 25% of ileal and 50% of caecal disease.

Papillary Carcinoma of the Thyroid Presenting Primarily as Cervical Lymphadenopathy: An approach to management.

Papillary carcinoma of thyroid usually presents as a palpable thyroid mass. This could be associated with pain, hoarseness, stridor or dysphagia. Rarely, it presents solely as cervical lympadenopthy in the presence of an otherwise grossly normal thyroid gland.

Relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in the jaw.

This case report describes the clinical case of relapse of precursor B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in the jaw of a 19-year-old female patient who presented with facial swelling, sensory disturbances of the face, and teeth mobility 10 months after a successful allogenic bone marrow transplant. The oral and dental presentations were the only features indicating leukemic relapse in this patient.

Metastatic Malignant Melanoma during Pregnancy: Case report and a Review of the literature.

Malignant melanoma is one of the most rapidly increasing cancers and, when it occurs during pregnancy, it can frequently metastasise to the placenta and the foetus. Earlier reports suggested a rapid progress of the disease during pregnancy with a poor prognosis; however, recent controlled studies found that stage for stage, the prognosis of melanoma during pregnancy is similar to that in a non-pregnant state. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can avoid a tragic outcome.
