Laryngeal and ocular granulation tissue formation in two Punjabi children: LOGIC syndrome.

Two unrelated children, both born in the United Kingdom of Punjabi Muslim parents, developed within months of birth, nodules in the larynx, conjunctiva and nailbeds. Currently the younger female child, aged five, is developing skin papules while the elder boy, now aged 15, is debilitated by oral, oesophageal and tracheal granulation tissue formation. Numerous biopsies of the affected tissues have revealed subepithelial granulation tissue formation of unknown aetiology.

Effects of age and rapid high-pressure fixation on the morphology of Schlemm's canal.

An analysis of size, shape, vacuole and cell counts of Schlemm's canal was undertaken in 20 human eyes that had undergone conventional immersion fixation. A reduction in vacuole count with age was shown to be associated with a decreased canal cell count. The decrease in cell count with age was closely linked to an age-related reduction in the size of Schlemm's canal, notably a reduction in meridional width of the canal.

A quantitative, non-isotopic bioassay for interleukin 2.

A quantitative bioassay for IL2 is described in which an electronic particle counter is used to measure IL2-mediated proliferation of an IL2-dependent cell line. The assay requires no radioisotopes, is comparable to tritiated thymidine incorporation and can be completely performed in about 28 hours. It can also be used to measure inhibition of IL2-mediated proliferation.

In vivo radiobiology of heavy ions.

The radiobiology of heavy charged particles has been investigated with various animal systems in vivo at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory using the helium beam from the 184" synchrocyclotron and the carbon, neon, and argon beams from the BEVALAC. Tumor experiments were carried out using the R1 sarcoma in rats and the EMT6 mouse mammary carcinoma, comparing X rays, carbon ions, neon ions, and argon ions. In vivo normal tissue experiments have been carried out with a wide range of tissues including testis, bone marrow, intestinal crypt cells, lens of the eye, esophagus, lung, and the spinal cord.

Clinical efficacy of Pimafucin (natamycin) vaginal tablets in a ten-day course for vaginal candidiasis.

Fifty women with vaginal Candida albicans infection were given Pimafucin (natamycin) vaginal tablets, two nightly for 10 days. At two weeks there was a 76 percent cure rate which was maintained at four weeks.
