We report an elderly male with mucin-producing urothelial-type adenocarcinoma of the prostate (MPUAP) and oligometastatic lung involvement, initially diagnosed as benign prostatic hyperplasia and treated with transurethral plasma resection of the prostate (TURP). Postoperative pathology indicated mucinous adenocarcinoma, with immunohistochemistry positive for CK7, CK20, and CDX-2. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) identified genetic alterations similar to those found in intestinal adenocarcinoma.

Background: Epidemiological studies reported associations between ozone (O) exposure and cardiovascular diseases, yet the biological mechanisms remain underexplored. Hypoxia is a shared pathogenesis of O-associated diseases; therefore, we hypothesized that O exposure may induce changes in hypoxia-related markers, leading to adverse cardiovascular effects.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate associations of short-term O exposure with hypoxic biomarkers and arterial stiffness.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the methodological quality, report quality, and evidence quality of a meta-analysis (MA) and systematic review (SR) of the efficacy of acupotomy in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA), and provided a reference for clinical decision-making.

Methods: We searched 8 databases to collect systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the efficacy of acupotomy in the treatment of KOA from January 30, 2018, to January 31, 2023. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the assessment of multiple systematic reviews (AMSTAR) 2 scale, the quality of the literature reports was scored using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systems Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 Version (PRISMA 2020),and the quality of the evidence was graded using the grading of recommendations assessment, development, and evaluation (GRADE) scale.

Chiral vortices and their phase transition in ferroelectric/dielectric heterostructures have drawn significant attention in the field of condensed matter. However, the dynamical origin of the chiral phase transition from achiral to chiral polar vortices has remained elusive. Here, we develop a phase-field perturbation model and discover the softening of out-of-plane vibration mode of polar vortices in [(PbTiO)/(SrTiO)] superlattices at a critical epitaxial strain or temperature.

Ambient concentrations are commonly used as proxies for personal PM exposure in epidemiological studies, despite indoor settings being the places where people spend most of their time. In a panel study of 110 nonsmoking, healthy college students in Lhasa, Tibet, indoor PM was monitored using calibrated low-cost sensors for two multiweek periods, in over 40 dormitories where participants resided. We also repeatedly measured fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), an acute respiratory inflammation biomarker, for each participant.

Along with abnormalities in glucose metabolism, disturbances in the balance of lipid catabolism and synthesis have emerged as a new area of cancer metabolism that needs to be studied in depth. Disturbances in lipid metabolic homeostasis, represented by fatty acid oxidation (FAO) imbalance, leading to activation of pro-cancer signals and abnormalities in the expression and activity of related metabolically critical rate-limiting enzymes, have become an important part of metabolic remodeling in cancer. The FAO process is a metabolic pathway that facilitates the breakdown of fatty acids into CO and HO and releases large amounts of energy in the body under aerobic conditions.

During pregnancy, fetal growth could lead to changes in human biomechanics. If postpartum recovery was not properly managed, it could be exacerbated, resulting in myofascial system disorders and various functional impairments. Among them, pain-related functional disorders were an important issue affecting quality of life in postpartum women.

Coiled-coil domain containing 88C (CCDC88C) is a component of non-canonical Wnt signaling, and its dysregulation causes colorectal cancer metastasis. Dysregulated expression of CCDC88C was observed in lymph node metastatic tumor tissues of breast cancer. However, the role of CCDC88C in breast cancer metastasis remains unclear.

Bioaerosols are a subset of important airborne particulates that present a substantial human health hazard due to their allergenicity and infectivity. Chemical reactions in atmospheric processes can significantly influence the health hazard presented by bioaerosols; however, few studies have summarized such alterations to bioaerosols and the mechanisms involved. In this paper, we systematically review the chemical modifications of bioaerosols and the impact on their health effects, mainly focusing on the exacerbation of allergic diseases such as asthma, rhinitis, and bronchitis.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common degenerative joint disorder that causes disability in aged individuals, caused by functional and structural alterations of the knee joint. To investigate whether metabolic drivers might be harnessed to promote cartilage repair, a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) untargeted metabolomics approach was carried out to screen serum biomarkers in osteoarthritic rats. Based on the correlation analyses, α-ketoglutarate (α-KG) has been demonstrated to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in various diseases.

Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), a key contributor to degenerative spinal diseases such as cervical spondylosis, significantly influences the quality of life of patients. Tuina, historically employed in the clinical management of cervical spondylosis, has demonstrated positive therapeutic outcomes; however, the mechanism of Tuina remains unclear.

Objective: This study examined the efficacy of Tuina in correcting the imbalanced structure of the cervical spine and its impact on apoptotic chondrocytes within the cervical disc.

Background: The Cisternostomy is a novel surgical concept in the treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), which can effectively drain the bloody cerebrospinal fluid from the skull base cistern, reduce the intracranial pressure, and improve the return of bone flap, but its preventive role in post-traumatic hydrocephalus (PTH) is unknow. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether Cisternostomy prevents the occurrence of PTH in patients with moderate and severe TBI.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of clinical data of 86 patients with moderate and severe TBI from May 2019 to October 2021 was carried out in the Brain Trauma Center of Tianjin Huanhu Hospital.

  • Fine particulate matter (PM) significantly contributes to global premature deaths, but oxidative potential (OP) serves as a more accurate measure of its health impacts.
  • This study presents the first online measurements of PM OP in Beijing during winter, revealing that primary PM and oxygenated organic aerosol (OOA) are the key contributors to OP.
  • The research indicates that pollution events like fireworks and dust storms affect OP differently, emphasizing the importance of understanding both PM levels and chemical composition to address health risks associated with air pollution.

While conventional ion-soft landing uses the mass-to-charge (/) ratio to achieve molecular selection for deposition, here we demonstrate the use of Structures for Lossless Ion Manipulation (SLIM) for mobility-based ion selection and deposition. The dynamic rerouting capabilities of SLIM were leveraged to enable the rerouting of a selected range of mobilities to a different SLIM path (rather than MS) that terminated at a deposition surface. A selected mobility range from a phosphazene ion mixture was rerouted and deposited with a current pulse (∼150 pA) resembling its mobility peak.

Interfacial solar vapor generation holds great promise for alleviating the global freshwater crisis, but its real-world application is limited by the efficiently choppy water evaporation and industrial production capability. Herein, a self-floating solar evaporator with an underwater aerophilic surface is innovatively fabricated by weaving core-shell yarns via mature weaving techniques. The core-shell yarns possess capillary water channels in the hydrophilic cotton core and can trap air in the hydrophobic electrospinning nanofiber shell when submerged underwater, simultaneously realizing controllable water supplies, stable self-flotation, and great thermal insulation.
