Nucleic acid transfer between plants is a phenomenon which is likely to occur in many ways in nature. We report here the active transmission of Apple scar skin viroid (ASSVd) naked ssRNA species by the whitefly Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Tv). Not only the viroid RNA, its DNA form was also identified from the insect.

The sequence analysis of CP and partial RNA 3 revealed that the rose isolate of PNRSV in India belongs to PV-32 group of PNRSV isolates. Apart from the already established group specific features of PV-32 group member's additional group-specific and host specific features were also identified.

The genome consisted of 8,394 nucleotides, excluding the poly (A) tail and contained six open reading frames (ORFs) coding protein for ORF1 220 kDa [1,948 amino acid (aa)], ORF2 25 kDa (228 aa), ORF3 12 kDa (106 aa), ORF4 7 kDa (64 aa), ORF5 32 kDa (291 aa) and ORF6 16 kDa (140 aa) from 5' to 3' end. Sequence was analyzed with other previously characterized full genomes of LSV.

Phylogenetic analyses on the basis of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), triple gene block protein and coat protein (CP) amino acid sequences revealed that CymMV is closely related to the Narcissus mosaic virus (NMV), Scallion virus X (SVX), Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV)and Potato aucuba mosaic virus (PAMV). Different sets of primers were used for the amplification of different regions of the genome through RT-PCR and the amplified genes were cloned in a suitable vector.
