Do we need standardized postoperative radiographs after locking plate fixation of distal radius fractures - A retrospective analysis of 664 patients.

Introduction: After surgical treatment of fractures of the distal radius, radiographs in 2 planes are routinely performed postoperatively as a standard procedure to verify anatomic reduction and implant positioning. However, the postoperative radiological examinations rarely has a consequence. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the frequency of treatment plan changes based on standardized postoperative radiographs.

An Additional Certification as a Centre for Geriatric Trauma Had No Benefit on Mortality Among Seriously Injured Elderly Patients-An Analysis of the TraumaRegister DGU with Data of the Registry for Geriatric Trauma (ATR-DGU).

: The number of seriously injured elderly patients is continuously rising. Several studies have underlined the benefit of orthogeriatric co-management in treating older patients with a proximal femur fracture. The basis of this orthogeriatric co-management is a certification as a Centre for Geriatric Trauma (ATZ).

Outcome of Centenarians with Hip Fracture: An Analysis of the Registry for Geriatric Trauma (ATR-DGU).

Outcomes for hip fracture patients have improved over the years, yet the population of older patients (≥80 years) continues to grow. By 2100, the global centenarian population is projected to exceed 25 million, but data on hip fracture outcomes in this group are rare and often derived from small samples. This study aimed to analyze outcomes for centenarian hip fracture patients in specialized geriatric trauma centers and compare them with those of patients under 80.

Validation of the Geriatrics at Risk Score (GeRi-Score) on 120-day follow-up, the influence of preoperative geriatric visits, and the time to surgery on the outcome of hip fracture patients: an analysis from the Registry for Geriatric Trauma (ATR-DGU).

Unlabelled: A validation of the GeRi-Score on 120-day mortality, the impact of a pre-operative visit by a geriatrician, and timing of surgery on the outcome was conducted. The score has predictive value for 120-day mortality. No advantage was found for surgery within 24 h or a preoperative geriatric visit.

Background: The value of somatostatin-analogon PET tracers in theranostics in cranial meningioma has been demonstrated in several studies; however, the value of semi-quantitative parameters for therapy and patient outcome is still unclear.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed comparing measured semi-quantitative Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT parameters (maximum standardized uptake value = SUVmax, mean standardized uptake value = SUVmean, and metabolic tumor volume = MTV) and calculated ratios (SUVmax tumor to pituitary gland and SUVmax tumor to superior sinus sagittalis), versus the WHO grades and overall outcome. Patients with histological confirmed meningioma or high probability for meningioma in the previous cranial MRI were eligible.

[Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the course of geriatric trauma patients with proximal femoral fractures].

Background/objective: In 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic posed a major challenge to the healthcare system. The hypothesis is that the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 had an impact on the care of older adults with proximal femoral fractures due to resource scarcity, regardless of whether or not the patient was infected.

Material And Methods: This study analyzed the data of 87 hospitals which entered 15,289 patients in the Geriatric Trauma Register ("AltersTraumaRegister DGU®", ATR-DGU) in Germany in 2019 and 2020.

Atypical Presentation of Liver Metastases of Prostate Cancer in 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT.

68Ga-PSMA-11 (68Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen-11) PET/CT continues to have a great clinical value for staging in prostate cancer. Lymph nodes and bone are the most typical metastatic sites of prostate cancer, whereas liver metastases are rare and usually show focally increased tracer uptake in 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT. Here, we present an 88-year-old man with histologically proven metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer and extensive PSMA-negative liver metastases identified by 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT.

Cemented Sacroiliac Screw Fixation versus Conservative Therapy in Fragility Fractures of the Posterior Pelvic Ring: A Matched-Pair Analysis of a Prospective Observational Study.

The aim of this study was to compare the outcome of cemented sacroiliac screw fixation to that of conservative treatment in nondisplaced fragility fractures of the sacrum during a 12-month follow-up. Therefore, matched-pair analysis including 40 patients from a previously performed prospective observational study was conducted. Pain was assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS), functional capabilities and mobility were assessed using the Barthel index, and health-related quality of life (HRQL) was assessed using the EQ-5D questionnaire at 6 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months after the fracture, respectively.

Automated Synthesis of [Ga]Ga-FAPI-46 on a Scintomics GRP Synthesizer.

[Ga]Ga-FAPI-46 is a radiolabelled fibroblast activation protein inhibitor that selectively binds to fibroblast activation protein (FAP), which is overexpressed by cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the tumour microenvironment. In recent years, radiolabelled FAP inhibitors (FAPIs) are becoming increasingly important in cancer diagnostics and also for targeted radionuclide therapy. Because of the increasing demand for radiolabelled FAPIs, automating the synthesis of these compounds is of great interest.

Liberal intraoperative fluid management leads to increased complication rates in geriatric patients with hip fracture.

Purpose: Fractures of the proximal femur in geriatric patients are life-changing and life-threatening events. Previous research has identified fluid volume as an independent factor contributing to trauma patients' complications. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the impact of intraoperative fluid volume on outcomes in geriatric patients undergoing hip fracture surgery.

Spinal anesthesia with better outcome in geriatric hip fracture surgery - An analysis of the Registry for Geriatric Trauma (ATR-DGU).

Background: Literature shows conflicting results regarding spinal (SA) or general anesthesia (GA) and their influence on the outcome of elderly patients with hip fractures. We, therefore, conducted an analysis from the Registry for Geriatric Trauma (ATR-DGU).

Methods: A retrospective, multicenter registry study including patients aged 70 years or above with hip fractures requiring surgery from 131 Centers for Geriatric Trauma (AltersTraumaZentrum DGU®) from 2016 to 2021.

Development of in-House Synthesis and Quality Control of [Tc]Tc-PSMA-I&S.

Many radioactive PSMA inhibitory substances have already been developed for PET diagnostics and therapy of prostate cancer. Because PET radionuclides and instrumentation may not be available, technetium-99 m labelled tracers can be considered as a diagnostic alternative. A suitable tracer is [99mTc]Tc-PSMA-I&S, primarily developed for radio-guided surgery, which has been identified for diagnostics of prostate cancer.

F18-FDG PET/CT in a patient with Antisynthetase Syndrome.

More prevalent in women than men, Antisynthetase Syndrome is a rare and poorly defined autoimmune disease associated with interstitial lung disease, polymyositis, and dermatomyositis. In addition to various diagnostic tools, imaging modalities are needed in certain situations. A 42-year-old woman with Anti-Jo-1-positive Antisynthetase Syndrome presented with thoracic muscular pain.

18F-FDG PET/CT in Primary Mesothelioma of the Liver.

Primary malignant mesothelioma is a rarity among malignant liver tumors. We present the case of a 48-year-old woman presenting with increasing upper abdominal discomfort and inappetence accompanied by a weight loss of approximately 10 kg. CT and MRI revealed a highly suspicious mass lesion in the liver.

The Influence of Malnutrition Measured by Hypalbuminemia and Body Mass Index on the Outcome of Geriatric Patients with a Fracture of the Proximal Femur.

Fractures of the proximal femur are a life-changing and life-threatening event for older people. Concomitant malnutrition has been described as an independent risk factor for complications and mortality. Therefore, we examined the influence of albumin and body mass index (BMI) as parameters for the nutritional state on the outcome after geriatric hip fracture surgery.

The Predictive Value of the "Identification of Seniors at Risk" Score on Mortality, Length of Stay, Mobility and the Destination of Discharge of Geriatric Hip Fracture Patients.

Purpose: The German Society for Geriatrics recommends the "ISAR" questionnaire as a screening tool for patients ≥70 for geriatric screening in emergency rooms. Although the ISAR-score is collected routinely in the "AltersTraumaRegister DGU" (ATR-DGU), to date less is known about the predictive value of the "ISAR"-score in geriatric trauma patients.

Patients And Methods: Currently, 84 clinics participate in the ATR-DGU.

Joint replacement increases radiation exposure to the staff in angiography: A phantom study.

Introduction: The present study investigates the influence of joint prostheses on the amount of scattered radiation in a simulated angiography set-up.

Materials And Methods: A clinical angiography system (Artis Zee, Siemens Healthineers, Germany) with a water phantom as a scattering object was used. The scattered radiation of the water phantom was repeatedly measured without prosthesis, with a knee prosthesis and a hip prosthesis made from titanium, aluminum, vanadium, ceramics and polyethylene.

Effect of Direct Oral Anticoagulants on Treatment of Geriatric Hip Fracture Patients: An Analysis of 15,099 Patients of the AltersTraumaRegister DGU.

The increased use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) results in an increased prevalence of DOAC treatment in hip fractures patients. However, the impact of DOAC treatment on perioperative management of hip fracture patients is limited. In this study, we describe the prevalence of DOAC treatment in a population of hip fracture patients and compare these patients with patients taking vitamin K antagonists (VKA) and patients not taking anticoagulants.

Diagnostic value of F-18 FDG PET/CT in fever or inflammation of unknown origin in a large single-center retrospective study.

Cause determination is challenging in fever or inflammation of unknown origin (FUO/IUO) despite today's diagnostic modalities. We evaluated the value of F-18 FDG PET/CT in an unselected patient collective. This retrospective nonrandomized single-center study enrolled 300 male and female patients with FUO/IUO.

Radioiodination and Purification of [I]β-CIT and [I]FP-CIT with an Automated Radiosynthesizer.

Dopaminergic transporter (DAT) imaging with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is used to diagnose Parkinson's disease and to differentiate it from other neurodegenerative disorders without presynaptic dopaminergic dysfunction. The radioiodinated tropane alkaloids [I]FP-CIT and [I]β-CIT enable the evaluation of the integrity of DATs. Commonly, the labeling of these compounds is performed by electrophilic substitution of the alkylstannylated precursors with radioactive iodine and following purification by HPLC or solid phase extraction (SPE).

Pedicle screw accuracy in thoracolumbar fractures- is routine postoperative CT scan necessary?

CT scan as a routine postoperative control is advocated by various authors, however its necessity remains unclear.

Effect of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on orthopedic trauma patients presenting in the emergency department of a maximum care hospital and level 1 trauma center.

Introduction: While overcrowding of emergency departments was often reported in the recent years, during the early phase of the pandemic, a reduction in patient numbers was seen. The aim of the current study was to describe the orthopedic trauma patient cohort presenting to the emergency department (ED) during the early pandemic period as compared to the cohort from the analogue time period 2019.
