Switching the location of metal atoms or ions in a molecule has been of great interest as a behavior of molecular machines. We describe herein that the reversible metal translocation can be coupled with the ligand-binding/release of organometallic complexes. The two rhodium moieties sandwiched between arylpolyene ligands exhibit metal-assembly and disassembly through reversible migration between the arene site and the olefin site, in response to the association and dissociation of additional ligands.

Ventriculoperitoneal shunt malfunction is a common complication in patients with lifelong hydrocephalus. We present a case of a 40-year-old man who successfully underwent endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) for shunt malfunction following neonatal meningitis. Despite long-term shunt dependency and an infectious etiology, ETV effectively managed his hydrocephalus, probably due to aqueductal stenosis and preserved cerebrospinal fluid absorption.

A plasmonic metasurface composed of a self-assembled monolayer of gold nanoparticles allows for fluorescence imaging with high spatial resolution, owing to the collective excitation of localized surface plasmon resonance. Taking advantage of fluorescence imaging confined to the nano-interface, we examined actin organization in breast cancer cell lines with different metastatic potentials during cell adhesion. 1Using computational methods, we designed 60-mer nanoparticles displaying SARS-like betacoronavirus (sarbecovirus) receptor-binding domains (RBDs) by () creating RBD sequences with 6 mutations in the SARS-COV-2 WA1 RBD that were predicted to retain proper folding and abrogate antibody responses to variable epitopes (mosaic-2s; mosaic-5), and () selecting 7 natural sarbecovirus RBDs (mosaic-7). These antigens were compared with mosaic-8b, which elicits cross-reactive antibodies and protects from sarbecovirus challenges in animals. Immunizations in naïve and COVID-19 pre-vaccinated mice revealed that mosaic-7 elicited higher binding and neutralization titers than mosaic-8b and related antigens.

Short tandem repeats are inherently unstable during DNA replication depending on repeat length, and the expansion of the repeat length in the human genome is responsible for repeat expansion disorders. Pentanucleotide AAGGG and ACAGG repeat expansions in intron 2 of the gene encoding replication factor C subunit 1 (RFC1) cause cerebellar ataxia, neuropathy, vestibular areflexia syndrome (CANVAS) and other phenotypes of late-onset cerebellar ataxia.
