The habenula has been implicated in psychiatric disorders such as depression, primarily because of its role in the modulation of the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems, which play a role in the pathophysiology of these disorders. Despite growing evidence supporting the role of the habenula in behavioral regulation, the process by which neural cells develop in the habenula remains elusive. Since the habenular anlage is found in the prosomere 2 domain expressing transcription factor Dbx1 in mouse embryos, we hypothesized that the Dbx1-expressing prosomere domain is a source of astrocytes that modulate neuronal activity in the habenula.

Effects of high-pressure-processed rice intake during interval walking training on glycemic control and NFKB2 gene methylation in hyperglycemic older people.

Purpose: High-pressure-processed (HPP) rice is white rice that maintains some key functional food ingredients of brown rice, such as polyphenols. We examined whether HPP rice intake during interval walking training (IWT) improved glycemic control with enhanced methylation of the NFKB2 gene in hyperglycemic older subjects.

Plastics that can metabolize in oceans are highly sought for a sustainable future. In this work, we report the noncovalent synthesis of unprecedented plastics that are mechanically strong yet metabolizable under biologically relevant conditions owing to their dissociative nature with electrolytes. Salt-bridging sodium hexametaphosphate with di- or tritopic guanidinium sulfate in water forms a cross-linked supramolecular network, which is stable unless electrolytes are resupplied.

Stimuli-responsive self-regulating assembly of chiral colloids for robust size and shape control.

Most synthetic self-assemblies grow indefinitely into size-unlimited structures, whereas some biological self-assemblies autonomously regulate their size and shape. One mechanism of such self-regulation arises from the chirality of building blocks, inducing their mutual twisting that is incompatible with their long-range ordered packing and thus halts the assembly's growth at a certain stage. This self-regulation occurs robustly in thermodynamic equilibrium rather than kinetic trapping, and therefore is attractive yet elusive.

Herein, we report a visible light-responsive hydrogel that showed a rapid, reversible sol/gel phase transition despite its relatively high mechanical properties (storage modulus ~10 Pa). To construct its 3D crosslinked network, we used a design strategy analogous to that employed for our highly water-rich yet mechanically robust nanocomposite supramolecular hydrogel ("aqua material").

Inspired by a recent finding that fluorous compounds disrupt the hydrogen-bonded network of water, we developed fluoro-crown ether phosphate FP-X. This compound acts as a fast cell-permeating agent, enabling direct delivery of various bioactive cargos (X) into cancer cells without endocytic entrapment.

However, whether the dysfunction of Shank3 in vCA1 causes the social memory impairment observed in ASD remains unclear.
