In cultured mouse cortical neurons, we tested the hypothesis that the toxic effect of 4-AP might result from inhibiting the Na(+),K(+)-ATPase (Na(+),K(+)-pump) and thereafter induction of a hybrid death of concomitant apoptosis and necrosis.
