Understanding Patient Preferences Regarding the Important Determinants of Breast Cancer Treatment: A Narrative Scoping Review.

Objective: Conventionally, optimal treatment strategies for breast cancer have been largely determined by physicians, with a scant understanding of patients' treatment values and preferences. Incorporating patient preferences in the decision-making process for breast cancer treatment is gaining recognition and can potentially improve treatment outcomes and compliance. This scoping review aims to synthesize evidence on the key determinants that are most valued by breast cancer patients when deciding on their treatment options.

Evidence mapping of interactions on concomitant use of Chinese medicine and platinum-based chemotherapy: a scoping review protocol.

Background: The utilization of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has gained popularity and acceptance worldwide. Increasing use of CHM either as a stand-alone or an adjunctive treatment for cancers has given rise to increasing concern on potential herbal-drug reactions. Possible combinatory effects are important to be explored in evaluating the rationality of integrating CHM and chemotherapy in clinical practice.

Evaluation of chemotherapy-induced toxicity and health-related quality of life amongst early-stage breast cancer patients receiving Chinese herbal medicine in Malaysia.

Purpose: This observational study aimed to compare the outcome and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) amongst breast cancer patients using Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) and those not using CHM during chemotherapy.

Methods: A prospective, non-randomised longitudinal study was conducted in two government integrated hospitals over an 8-month period. Early-stage breast cancer patients who were (1) either already using complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) or not and (2) who were on a regime of 5-fluorouracil, epirubicin, and cyclophosphamide were included in the study.

A systematic review on Chinese herbal treatment for radiotherapy-induced xerostomia in head and neck cancer patients.

Background: Over 80% of head and neck cancer patients suffer from radiotherapy-induced xerostomia (dry mouth). Xerostomia affects cancer patients' quality of life, and xerostomia sometimes persists throughout the patients' lifetime. This review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Chinese herbs in relieving radiotherapy induced xerostomia.
