Interpreting geophysical data requires solving nonlinear optimization problem(s) in inversion. Analytical methods such as least-square have some intrinsic limitations, which include slow convergence and dimensionality, making heuristic-based swarm intelligence a better alternative. Large-scale nonlinear optimization problems in inversion can be solved effectively using a technique within the swarm intelligence family called Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO).

Aim: This research presents the radiogenic components in thirteen limestone samples from a quarry site in Ewekoro, southwestern Nigeria.
Methods: The distributions of natural radionuclides (U, Th and K) in the limestone samples were determined by gamma spectroscopy using a well-type thallium-doped sodium iodide detector. Also, estimated associated radiological hazards are presented and compared with the standard threshold values.
This article consists of data sets for five (5) traverses of 2D electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) collected in Abeokuta, southwestern Nigeria. ABEM Terrameter (SAS1000/4000) system and dipole-dipole array were used for the data collection. RES2DINV computer program was used to invert the observed apparent resistivity data to obtain 2D inverse model images of resistivity distribution of the subsurface.
