Introduction: Basal insulin's position in the type 2 diabetes (T2D) treatment paradigm has undergone significant revisions since the advent of diabetes medications such as glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) and sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2is), which offer cardiorenal protection for people with T2D (PwT2D). This study aimed to characterize the demographic, clinical, and diabetes medication utilization patterns of PwT2D initiating basal insulin between 2014 and 2020 over the time period when these revisions were occurring.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted using the IBM MarketScan databases and included adults with T2D who initiated basal insulin therapy (basal insulin initiators) in 2015, 2017, or 2019.

Introduction: Humulin R U-500 (U-500R) utilization has increased in the past few years, raising concerns as U-500R is indicated only for patients requiring > 200 units of insulin. Thus, evidence of dispensed total daily dose (dTDD) > 200 units of prior U-100 insulin based on pharmacy claims is increasingly used as a criterion to determine appropriate switching to U-500R by payers. The study compared the treatment patterns and outcomes before and after U-500R initiation among patients who were identified with ≤ 200 units/day U-100 insulin fill in order to understand the appropriateness of switching.

Background: Black men are more likely to be diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer (PC) and die from PC than white men. However, black men with metastatic castration-resistant PC (mCRPC) had longer overall survival (OS) than white men when treated with certain agents in clinical trials. We analyzed claims data from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) database to evaluate OS in black and white men treated with enzalutamide or abiraterone (novel hormonal therapy [NHT]) for chemotherapy-naïve mCRPC.
