  • Cardiac surgery involving cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) can lead to gut barrier dysfunction, which may be indicated by levels of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in the bloodstream.
  • The study aimed to assess glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) as a potential marker for this gut barrier impairment in patients during their surgery.
  • Results showed that higher GLP-1 levels 24 hours post-surgery correlated with increased inflammation and poorer clinical outcomes, suggesting that GLP-1 could be an important indicator of gut health in these patients.
