Purpose Of Review: Although there are a lot of studies examining the effects of different blocks for postoperative analgesia after video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), the results are controversial.
Recent Findings: Paravertebral block, serratus anterior plane block and erector spinae plane block appear to be effective and beneficial for post-VATS analgesia, but probably in different manners.
Summary: All three blocks can be suggested for daily practice, the choice should be based on personal experience and preference of the anesthetist.
Objectives: Carbon tetrachloride (CCl), employed in various industrial fields, can cause acute damage in renal tissues. This study investigated the therapeutic effect of the TNF-alpha inhibitor Infliximab on TGF-ß and apoptosis caused by acute kidney image induced by CCl.
Methods: Twenty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned into control, CCl, and CCl+ Infliximab groups.
: Prolonged surgical procedures and some clinical conditions such as surgeries of thoracoabdominal aorta, mesenteric ischemia, cardiopulmonary bypass, strangulated hernias and neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis may cause decreased perfusion and injury of relevant organs and tissues. After reperfusion, injuries may get worse, leading to ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. Reperfusion following arterial clamping allows oxygen to ischemic tissues and produce injury by multiple mechanisms, including neutrophilic infiltration, intracellular adhesion molecules, and generation of reactive oxygen radicals.
