Aim And Background: This study aimed to evaluate the quality of life (QoL) in end-stage kidney disease (ESRD) patients on maintenance hemodialysis through the Missoula-Vitas Quality of Life Index-15 (MVQOLI-15) to identify factors affecting their well-being.

Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Dialysis Unit of the Nephrology Department, Nishtar Hospital Multan. Over six months, 140 eligible patients were enrolled using non-probability consecutive sampling.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, primarily transmitted through sexual contact, have been linked to various cancers, including cervical, penile, anal, oropharynx, breast, and prostate cancers. This study presents a unique case of concurrent high-risk HPV35, HPV45, and HPV59 infections in both prostate and bladder cancer tissues from a single patient, representing the first documented instance worldwide with identical HPV types detected in two adjacent organs of the same individual. Employing a multiplex-PCR approach, gel electrophoresis, and Sanger sequencing, we confirmed the presence of these high-risk HPV types.

Background: Seclusion is a restrictive practice that many healthcare services are trying to reduce. Previous studies have sought to identify predictors of seclusion initiation, but few have investigated factors associated with adverse outcomes after seclusion termination.

Aims: To assess the factors that predict an adverse outcome within 24 h of seclusion termination.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is one of the sexually transmitted diseases which have been implicated in the etiology of multiple cancers. To date, several studies have been conducted to evaluate the incidence of high-risk (HR) HPV in prostate cancer (PCa) which have generated widely conflicting data. Hence, this leaves a lack of awareness on the causal role of persistent HPV infection in the development of PCa.

Worldwide, populations face significant burdens from neurodegenerative disorders (NDDs), especially Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Although there are many proposed etiologies for neurodegenerative disorders, including genetic and environmental factors, the exact pathogenesis for these disorders is not fully understood. Most patients with NDDs are given lifelong treatment to improve their quality of life.

Article Synopsis
  • Most AI advancements in healthcare have primarily taken place in wealthy countries, creating a gap in low-resource areas like Sub-Saharan Africa, where high perinatal mortality rates could be alleviated with better medical imaging.
  • Deep learning models have been proposed for fetal ultrasound diagnosis, but their effectiveness in resource-poor settings remains unproven due to different equipment and data availability.
  • This research explores ways to adapt high-resource AI models for low-resource environments, demonstrating that transfer learning can improve model performance in African countries by combining small local samples with larger datasets from developed nations.

Long-Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) is an open-source protocol for the standard Internet of Things (IoT) Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN). This work's focal point is the LoRa Multi-Armed Bandit decentralized decision-making solution. The contribution of this paper is to study the effect of the re-learning EXP3 Multi-Armed Bandit (MAB) algorithm with previous experts' advice on the LoRaWAN network performance.

Background And Aim: We have previously shown in a retrospective analysis that the plasma thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) rises significantly post-Ramadan in levothyroxine-treated hypothyroid patients, possibly as a result of lifestyle alterations and time restrictions during the nonfasting period from dusk until dawn. The aim of this study is to determine the best time to instruct patients to take levothyroxine during Ramadan so as to minimize changes in thyroid function tests during this period.

Methods: In a randomized prospective design, hypothyroid patients taking levothyroxine were randomized to receive instructions to take levothyroxine at one of the following 3 times during Ramadan: (group 1) at dusk 30-min before Iftar meal, (group 2) 3 or more hours after Iftar meal, or (group 3) at dawn 30-min before Suhur meal.

Objectives: Few Western studies highlighted the outcomes of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). Data regarding the outcomes of noncurative ESDs remains scarce. In this study, we share our experience with ESD for early EAC with a focus on noncurative ESDs.

Treatment outcomes for bulimia nervosa in type 1 diabetes are worse than those for conventional bulimia nervosa. These outcomes may be a consequence of late detection and subsequent management. The combination of these disorders has been referred to as diabulimia; however, this is not an official diagnosis and is a colloquial term used by patients and the media to describe the associated maladaptive pattern of compensatory behaviors.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome-hypermobility type (EDS-HT) are disorders that have a strong association and share a relationship with some mental illnesses. Both are commonly misdiagnosed as mental disorders possibly because they share a similar phenomenology to some. There is limited awareness and recognition of POTS and EDS-HT, which subsequently delays diagnosis.
