Background: Magnesium sulfate is the preferred pharmacological intervention for the prevention and treatment of eclamptic seizures in pregnancy. Pain associated with intramuscular injections and the need for an electronic infusion pump for use intravenously represent significant barriers to broader utilization. We hypothesize that an alternative regimen based on serial intravenous (IV) boluses can produce serum concentrations comparable to those produced by a continuous infusion.

Background: The diagnosis of preeclampsia (PE) is based on the measurement of maternal blood pressure and proteinuria; however, these parameters are not used in the prediction of adverse fetal outcomes that may occur due to fetal stress. The plasma concentrations of total cell-free DNA (cf-DNA), cell-free fetal DNA (cff-DNA) and soluble endoglin (sEng) are higher in women with established PE than in normotensive controls, and the increase is particularly marked in those with severe PE. We aimed to evaluate the levels of cf-DNA, cff-DNA and sEng in pregnant Egyptian women with PE in order to assess the severity of the disease and to detect their potential utility in the future prediction of time of delivery and adverse fetal outcome.

We aimed to evaluate the association of Fas polymorphism and the Fas ligand with preeclampsia, investigating whether the G 670 Fas gene variant and the Fas Ligand INV2nt 124 G variant had a differential distribution in patients with preeclampsia. The preeclamptic group consisted of 50 pregnant women who developed preeclampsia, while the control group consisted of 50 age-matched pregnant women with uncomplicated pregnancies. Fas and Fas ligand gene polymorphisms were tested using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism.

Background: Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and fetal/neonatal morbidity and mortality. Early prediction of preeclampsia can minimize maternal and fetal complications. Gene polymorphisms are promising markers for early prediction of preeclampsia.
