Background: The Coronavirus 2019 is a pandemic that has spread worldwide, threatening human health. The main cause of death in patients with COVID-19 is a systemic pro-inflammatory mechanism that quickly progresses to acute respiratory distress syndrome. Hematological ratios as affordable indicators of inflammatory response were studied in COVID-19 patients.

Methods: All cases with suspicious AD (ultimately assigned BI-RADS 4 or 5 categories) were retrospectively included. Two radiologists independently reviewed DM and DBT images in two sessions for detection (DM vs.
Objectives: To evaluate the utility of MDCT criteria for the determination of resectability and tumor response in borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC) following neoadjuvant therapy (NAT).
Methods: This prospective study includes 90 consecutive BRPC patients who underwent surgery following NAT. Two radiologists assessed baseline and pre-surgical CTs for (largest tumor axis, size, attenuation, and vascular criteria).
Objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of DCE MRI and DWI in the assessment of pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC).
Methods: This prospective study included 90 patients with MIBC who finished NAC. Two radiologists independently assessed MRI for the determination of semi-quantitative parameters (wash-in rate and wash-out rate) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value.
Objectives: To assess the utility of MDCT tumor-vascular interface criteria for predicting vascular invasion and resectability in borderline pancreatic cancer (BRPC) patients after neoadjuvant therapy (NAT).
Methods: This prospective study included 90 patients with BRPC who finished NAT, showed no progression in preoperative CTs and underwent surgery. Two radiologists independently assessed preoperative vessel-tumor interface criteria.
Rationale And Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of MDCT and laparoscopy in the prediction of peritoneal carcinomatosis index score. Reproducibility of MDCT interpretation was also assessed.
Methods: This prospective study included 85 ovarian cancer patients underwent MDCT and diagnostic laparoscopy before cytoreductive surgery.
The neglected tropical disease mycetoma is a chronic granulomatous inflammatory and infectious disease affecting various body parts. The most common causative agent is the fungus Madurella mycetomatis. In order to study the genetic diversity of this fungus and to monitor any potential outbreaks, a good typing method that can be used in endemic settings is needed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOn 28th May 2016, mycetoma was recognized as a neglected tropical disease by the World Health Organization. This was the result of a 4-year journey starting in February 2013 with a meeting of global mycetoma experts. Knowledge gaps were identified and included the incidence, prevalence, and mapping of mycetoma; the mode of transmission; the development of methods for early diagnosis; and better treatment.

Direct microscopic examination revealed high amounts of fungal hyphae from the right elbow material. The mould recovered in multiple cultures was identified as Microsporum persicolor by molecular identification based on partial of β-tubulin gene (BT2), internal transcribed spacer, partial small ribosomal subunit (SSU) and large ribosomal subunit, partial translation elongation factor (TEF1) and RNA polymerase second largest subunit (RPB1) loci sequence data.

The current recommended treatment is based on extensive surgical debridement combined with prolonged antifungal therapy with ketoconazole or itraconazole. Despite the different phylogenetic positions of black-grain eumycetoma species, they are all treated with the same antifungal agents.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe current treatment of eumycetoma utilizing ketoconazole is unsatisfactory because of high recurrence rates, which often leads to complications and unnecessary amputations, and its comparatively high cost in endemic areas. Hence, an effective and affordable drug is required to improve therapeutic outcome. E1224 is a potent orally available, broad-spectrum triazole currently being developed for the treatment of Chagas disease.

Morphological and phylogenetic analysis of the ribosomal small subunit (SSU), large subunit (LSU), internal transcribed spacer (ITS), β-tubulin (BT2), actin (ACT1), and elongation factor (TEF1) genes revealed that the isolate deviated from any known agent of mycetoma; it clustered in the genus Pleurostoma (anamorph genus, Pleurostomophora) in the order Calosphaeriales. The novel species, here named Pleurostomophora ochracea, is characterized by phenotypic features.
