Background: Open inguinal hernia repair (OIHR) can be conducted under either general anesthesia (GA) or local anesthesia (LA). Despite a lack of evidence supporting improved perioperative outcomes, GA is the predominant anesthesia type used in OIHR. Frailty is defined as a clinically recognizable state of age-related increased vulnerability.

Hydrocarbon potential in the Northern Egyptian Red Sea: insights from geophysical datasets and analysis of onshore marginal outcrop analogues and subsurface sequences.

The Red Sea remains a largely under-explored basin, with the Northern Egyptian Red Sea requiring further investigation due to limited borehole data, sparse case studies, and poor seismic quality. A petroleum system, regional structural cross-section, and geological block diagrams integrating onshore fieldwork from Gebel Duwi and offshore subsurface geology were utilized to assess the hydrocarbon potential of the Northern Egyptian Red Sea (NERS). The findings highlight that pre- and syn-rift organic-rich source units in the NERS could generate oil and gas, similar to the capped reservoirs of the Southern Gulf of Suez.

Knowledge, attitudes and practices of the general population towards Marburg virus disease in sub-Saharan African countries: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Marburg virus disease (MVD) is categorized among viral hemorrhagic fevers. MVD is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to identify factors affecting MVD knowledge, attitudes and practices in sub-Saharan African countries.

Reservoir characterization of the Abu Roash D Member through petrography and seismic interpretations in Southern Abu Gharadig Basin, Northern Western Desert, Egypt.

This research combines petrography and seismic analysis to assess the Upper Cretaceous Abu Roash (AR)/D's carbonate member composition in the Southwest Abu-Sennan oil field in the Southern Abu Gharadig Basin within the Northern Western Desert of Egypt. Various datasets were used, including petrographic thin sections, and electrical well logs for four stratigraphic wells (01, -02, -03, and, -04), along with a time domain seismic dataset covering the study area. Petrographic analysis across multiple depths and intervals has provided valuable insights.

Ramadan fasting following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy: a prospective online survey cohort study in Egypt.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the feasibility and implications of Ramadan fasting for patients who have undergone laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), assessing impacts on hydration, nutrient intake, weight management, and gastrointestinal symptoms.

Methods: A prospective online survey was conducted among 218 LSG patients and 75 control individuals with obesity who had not undergone surgery. Participants were surveyed before and after Ramadan, providing data on fasting practices, hunger and satiety levels, fluid and nutrient intake, and the occurrence of gastrointestinal symptoms.

Formation evaluation of Abu Madi reservoir in Baltim gas field, Nile Delta, using well logs, core analysis and pressure data.

Baltim Eastern and Northern gas fields in the offshore Nile Delta have very high gas condensate accumulations. Therefore, the present research evaluates Abu Madi and Qawasim Formations and defines the petrophysical parameters for them using various data from five wells composed of wireline logs (gamma-ray, density, neutron, sonic, resistivity), core data, pressure data, and cross-plots. In the current study, the formations of the main reservoirs were evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively based on the petrophysical analysis to assess the production potential.

Dynamics of microbial community structure and nutrient removal from an innovative side-stream enhanced biological phosphorus removal process.

Biological phosphorous (P) and nitrogen (N) removal from municipal wastewater was studied using an innovative anoxic-aerobic-anaerobic side-stream treatment system. The impact of influent water quality including chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonium and orthophosphate concentrations on the reactor performance was evaluated. The results showed the system was very effective at removing both COD (>88%) and NH-N (>96%) despite varying influent concentrations of COD, NH-N, and total PO-P.
