A New Laparoscopic Entry Point in Patients With Previous Laparotomy: A Prospective Comparative Study.

Introduction: Intraperitoneal access and establishing pneumoperitoneum for laparoscopy is a critical step especially in patients who underwent previous laparotomy due to the higher risk of visceral or vascular injuries. In this study, we propose a new entry point for safe laparoscopic access in cases having previous laparotomy.

Materials And Methods: This is a prospective controlled randomized trial conducted between January 2016 and January 2022 in Ain Shams University Hospitals.

Hybrid thermosensitive-mucoadhesive forming gels for enhanced corneal wound healing effect of L-carnosine.

Purpose: Thermosensitive gels have been around for decades but only a few have been translated into ophthalmic pharmaceuticals. The aim of this study was to combine the thermo-gelling polymer poloxamer 407 and mucoadhesive polymers chitosan (CS) and methyl cellulose (MC) for developing effective and long-acting ophthalmic delivery systems for L-carnosine (a natural dipeptide drug) for corneal wound healing.

Methods: The effect of different polymer combinations on parameters like gelation time and temperature, rheological properties, texture, spreading coefficients, mucoadhesion, conjunctival irritation potential, release, and permeation were studied.

Aflibercept therapy for exudative age-related macular degeneration resistant to bevacizumab and ranibizumab.

Background: Despite the good outcomes achieved with intravitreal angiogenic therapy, a subset of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients experience resistance to therapy after repeated injections. Switching drugs could offer benefit to this group of patients.

Purpose: To determine visual and anatomical outcomes in a cohort of neovascular AMD patients resistant to repeated injections of bevacizumab/ranibizumab after switching to aflibercept therapy.

Persistence of chicken anemia virus antigen and inclusions in spontaneous cases of Marek's disease visceral lymphomas in broiler chickens at slaughterhouses.

The chicken anemia virus (CAV) and Marek's disease virus (MDV) infect chickens worldwide; a single or dual infection by these viruses has a great impact on poultry production. In the present study, we examined the existence of CAV antigen and its inclusions in Marek's disease (MD) lymphomas in chickens in the slaughterhouses of Iwate prefecture, Japan. Forty-nine spleens and 13 livers with different degrees of nodular lesions were histopathologically examined at our laboratory.

Femtosecond Laser Assisted Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty Outcomes and Healing Patterns Compared to Manual Technique.

The purpose of the study is to report the visual, refractive, and wound healing pattern outcomes of femtosecond assisted deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) compared to the conventional manual technique. DALK was performed on 50 eyes of 47 advanced keratoconus patients. The patients were divided into two groups, 25 eyes each, depending on whether femtosecond assisted or manual DALK technique was performed for the side cut of the procedure only.

Gastric duplication: proventricular cystic choristoma on the spleen of a broiler chicken.

Gastric duplication (choristoma) is a very rare anomaly in both humans and other animal species. We report herein a case of proventricular cystic choristoma in a 62-day-old broiler chicken. The broiler chicken was brought from the slaughterhouse to our laboratory after a pale-brown cystic structure closely attached to a thin, compressed spleen was identified.
