Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive malignancy with few long-term survivors. Despite the dismal prognosis, hyperthermic intrathoracic chemoperfusion (HITOC) was shown to improve survival in a selective group of patients. We analyzed the influence of HITOC following pleurectomy and decortication on postoperative morbidity and overall survival for patients suffering from localized mesothelioma.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the management of primary aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs), using methods like comprehensive curettage, hydrogen peroxide lavage, and non-vascularized strut fibular grafting, analyzed through 20 cases mostly involving young males.
  • Results showed a high average Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) score of 91.55%, reflecting positive functional outcomes, with non-vascularized fibular grafts providing effective stabilization and quicker recovery.
  • The findings support the proposed treatment approach as a reliable option for ABC management, emphasizing improved patient outcomes and functional recovery while considering factors like age and lesion characteristics.

Background Vertical shear (VS) pelvic ring injuries present a unique challenge due to their inherent vertical and rotational instability and the risk of massive bleeding. VS injuries may result from either bony or ligamentous injury. The goal in the treatment of VS fractures of the pelvis is to achieve and maintain an accurate reduction of the displaced hemipelvis.

Background And Study Aims: There is an increasing trend to inappropriately prescribe proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in different clinical settings despite the reported adverse outcomes. This study aimed to assess (1) the prevalence of potentially inappropriate use of PPIs and its associated risk factors among hospitalized patients, at pre-admission and discharge and (2) the prevalence of valid indications of PPIs use without prescription.

Patients And Methods: A retrospective observational study was performed at a single center, examining the records of patients aged ≥18 years who were admitted to the Family Medicine inpatient service over a one-year period.

Background: Hydrocephalus is commonly associated with Chiari malformation (CM) particularly CM type II. The traditional treatment of hydrocephalus in these patients has been cerebrospinal fluid diversion by shunts. Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) has emerged as an alternative procedure in these patients.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the use of intravenous levetiracetam as the first-line treatment of neonatal seizures compared with phenobarbital.

Methods: The study was conducted on 104 neonates (0-28 days) with clinical seizures after inclusion criteria. They were assigned in equal ratio into 2 groups; 1 included neonates who received phenobarbitone, and the other included neonates who received levetiracetam.

This study investigated the effect of phytic acid (IP6) in different concentrations and application times on microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and interfacial integrity of universal adhesive to deep dentin. Flat deep dentin surfaces of 48 human molars were either etched with 37% phosphoric acid (PA) for 15 sec (control); or received no acid treatment and universal adhesive was applied directly in a self-etch mode (SE); or divided according to IP6 concentration (C) into two main groups: C1, 0.5%, and C2, 1%.

A high-performance immobilized bacterial strain coated with magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles was used for Basic Blue 41 azo dye (BB 41 dye) decolorization. To create the coated bacterial strain, Raoultella Ornithinolytica sp. was isolated and identified under the accession number KT213695, then coated with manufactured magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles.

Article Synopsis
  • * Various characterization techniques including FEG-SEM, zeta potential, and XRD were used to analyze the nanocomposite before performing experiments with male Sprague Dawley rats to assess heart function.
  • * Blood samples were taken from the rats to measure important biochemical markers, and the results indicated that modified chitosan improves heart function by lessening fluoride toxicity through a series of statistical analyses.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the risk factors predicting the development of intractable epilepsy in children with cerebral palsy (CP), with an emphasis on perinatal characteristics, seizure semiology, imaging, and EEG findings.

Materials & Methods: Following a descriptive, retrospective, case-control design, 106 children with CP and epilepsy from 2015 to 2020 were studied (46 children with CP and intractable epilepsy and 60 with CP and controlled epilepsy). Data were retrieved from medical records of participants (i.

Perinatal asphyxia (PA) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in which dramatic transient impairment in liver functions occurs in some patients. We aimed to evaluate the state of the liver in cases of Perinatal asphyxia and to assess the severity of hepatic impairment in relation to different grades of HIE. This case-control study was conducted on 100 full-term newborns with perinatal asphyxia (Group I) and 50 healthy neonates served as controls (Group II).

Lindane (gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane, gamma-HCH), a highly persistent organochlorine insecticide is neurotoxic at acute doses and has been reported to induce oxidative stress in cells and tissues. In this study, we investigated the antioxidant property of Nigella sativa seed oil (N.O) and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega3) against gamma-HCH-induced oxidative hepatic and renal damage in male rats serum.
