RNAi-Mediated Screening of Selected Target Genes Against Culex quinquefasciatus (Diptera: Culicidae).

Culex quinquefasciatus, a member of the Culex pipiens complex, is widespread in Saudi Arabia and other parts of the world. It is a vector for lymphatic filariasis, Rift Valley fever, and West Nile virus. Studies have shown the deleterious effect of RNA interference (RNAi)-mediated knockdown of various lethal genes in model and agricultural pest insects.

Carbonated ground granulated blast furnace slag stabilising brown kaolin.

Proposals have been made by several researchers to conduct the sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO) through calcium and magnesium-rich materials. From these materials, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) containing 5% magnesium and 45% calcium is seen to be a good candidate and is available to sequester CO. This study intends to ascertain the ability to absorb CO, sequester it, and increase treated kaolin strength with different content of GGBS under various carbonation periods with varying CO pressure.

Characterization and RNAi-mediated knockdown of Chitin Synthase A in the potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella.

Chitin is a major component of insect exoskeleton, tracheal system and gut where it is synthesized by chitin synthase (CHS) enzymes. In this paper, we report the isolation and RNAi of chitin synthase A (PhoCHSA) from the potato tuber moth Phthorimaea operculella. The full-length cDNA of PhoCHSA is 5,627 bp with 4,689 bp open reading frame coding for 1,563 amino acids.

Glove Port Transanal Excision of Rectal Tumors an Alternative Method for Rectal Tumor Excision: Single Center Experience.

Aim: Transanal minimal invasive surgery has been practiced for several years for excision of rectal tumors however there is no standard consensus about its applications. This minimally invasive approach helps in avoiding major rectal resections and its associated risk of mortality and morbidity.The aim of this study is to describe a single center experience with transanal glove port excision of rectal tumors which are not amenable to colonoscopic excision.

Use of a venting PEG tube in the management of recurrent acute gastric dilatation associated with Prader-Willi syndrome.

A patient with Prader-Willi Syndrome was admitted to the ICU with features of recurrent acute gastric dilatation, aspiration pneumonia and a massive pulmonary embolus. He was initially managed with intubation, assisted ventilation, intravenous fluids and anticoagulation. Decompression of the stomach was achieved with a nasogastric tube.

Spontaneous rupture of the spleen as a result of primary splenic lymphoma.

Spontaneous rupture of the spleen is a true surgical emergency that requires immediate management to prevent rapid exsanguination. It occurs mostly as a result of splenic infiltration by infectious or haematological diseases. We present a case of a 79-year-old male who was admitted to our emergency department with 3 days history of feeling unwell, abdominal pain, and dizziness, with no history of trauma.
