- About 5 million necessary neurosurgeries in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) go unmet each year due to insufficient training facilities and resources.
- The Madison Microneurosurgery Initiative was launched in 2020 to provide free, sustainable microsurgery training for healthcare professionals in LMICs by developing and donating training kits.
- As a result, 28 institutions in 18 LMICs received training kits and established microsurgery training centers, with additional live-streamed and in-person training sessions organized to promote ongoing education and skill development.
