- The study examined thyroid functions and levels in 150 pregnant Egyptian women across all three trimesters, comparing them to a control group of non-pregnant women.
- Serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels were significantly lower in pregnant women than in non-pregnant women, with trimester-specific TSH reference ranges established.
- Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO Abs) were highest in the first trimester and decreased in subsequent trimesters, while thyroid volume was slightly higher but not significantly compared to controls, and positively correlated with body mass index.
Needlescopic techniques have been used recently in different pediatric procedures, which made this type of surgery more feasible and less invasive with decreased hospital stay and improved cosmetic results. The technique is being developed further. New techniques with minor modifications are evolving every day.
