Clinical Effect of Genetic Testing in Inherited Cardiovascular Diseases: A 14-Year Retrospective Study.

Background: The clinical impact of genetic testing in a contemporary real-life cohort of patients with heritable cardiomyopathies or arrhythmias is not well defined. Additionally, the genetic spectrum of these conditions in the French-Canadian population is unknown, and interpretation of genetic variants can be challenging because of a known founder effect.

Objectives: This study sought to evaluate the clinical utility of arrhythmia and cardiomyopathy genetic testing and assess the utility of allele frequency data from a local reference population.

Impact of dual sensory impairment on the risk of incident dementia: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Strong evidence supports the importance of potentially modifiable risk factors for dementia, with sensory loss, particularly visual and hearing impairment, being prominent among them. While single sensory impairment has been widely investigated, the influence of concomitant visual and hearing impairment is still not clear. Thus, in this systematic review, we aim to evaluate the risk of developing all-cause dementia due to dual sensory (visual and hearing) impairment and to comprehensively explore possible sources of heterogeneity.

Colorectal cancer and inulin supplementation: the good, the bad, and the unhelpful.

The prebiotic inulin has been vaunted for its potential to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. Inulin fermentation resulting in the production of short-chain fatty acids, primarily butyrate, has been reported to be associated with properties that are beneficial for gut health and has led to an increased consumption of inulin in the Western population through processed food and over-the-counter dietary supplements. However, in clinical trials, there is limited evidence of the efficacy of inulin in preventing colorectal cancer.

Modulating Gut Microbiota Prevents Anastomotic Leak to Reduce Local Implantation and Dissemination of Colorectal Cancer Cells after Surgery.

Purpose: Anastomotic leak (AL) is a major complication in colorectal cancer surgery and consists of the leakage of intestinal content through a poorly healed colonic wound. Colorectal cancer recurrence after surgery is a major determinant of survival. We hypothesize that AL may allow cancer cells to escape the gut and lead to cancer recurrence and that improving anastomotic healing may prevent local implantation and metastatic dissemination of cancer cells.

A two-stage robust optimization approach for the master surgical schedule problem under uncertainty considering downstream resources.

This paper addresses a planning decision for operating rooms (ORs) that aim at supporting hospital management. Focusing on elective patients, we determined the master surgical schedule (MSS) on a one-week time horizon. We assigned the specialties to available sessions and allocated surgeries to them while taking into consideration the priorities of the outpatients in the ambulatory surgical discipline.

Clinical validation of the SIMPLE classification for optical diagnosis of colorectal polyps.

 A novel endoscopic optical diagnosis classification system (SIMPLE) has recently been developed. This study aimed to evaluate the SIMPLE classification in a clinical cohort.  All diminutive and small colorectal polyps found in a cohort of individuals undergoing screening, diagnostic, or surveillance colonoscopies underwent optical diagnosis using image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE) and the SIMPLE classification.

[Burkitt's lymphoma of the oral cavity: about a case].

Burkitt's lymphoma (LB) is a type of malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphoma originating from malignant B-cell transformation and proliferation. Positive confirmation is based on biopsy of the tumor mass or bone marrow aspiration revealing the presence of tumor cells. We here report the case of a young man, about twenty years old, addressed for post tooth extraction gingival swellings evolving for 1 month.

[Bacteriological study of the strains isolated from ocular infections].

Isolation of bacteria involved in eye infections and their susceptibility pattern to various antibiotics in vitro eye were studied. Different ocular samples were obtained from 354 patients hospitalized in ophthalmology unit. The samples were inoculated directly onto appropriate culture media.

Chryseomonas luteola has only rarely been reported as a human bacterial pathogen. It has been shown that this organism in particular affects patients with health or indwelling disorders. Most reported cases showed septicemia, meningitis, endocarditis, or peritonitis.
