This paper explores medical students' perceptions of failure through a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews to gather insights from six students across different academic years at Queen Mary University of London. The study aims to understand how students define failure, its causes, and its impact on their academic and personal lives. Key findings reveal that failure is perceived as multifaceted, influenced by internal and external expectations, and evolves throughout medical school.

Atomically precise metal nanoclusters (NCs) can be compositionally controlled at the single-atom level, but understanding structure-property correlations is required for tailoring specific optical properties. Here, the impact of Ni atom doping on the optical, structural, and electrochemical properties of atomically precise 1,3-benzene dithiol (BDT) protected Ag NCs is studied. The Ni-doped Ag (NiAg(BDT)) NCs, are synthesized using a co-reduction method and characterized using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI MS), ion mobility spectrometry (IMS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

Microneedles (MNs), that is, a matrix of micrometer-scale needles, have diverse applications in drug delivery, skincare therapy, and health monitoring. MNs offer a minimally invasive alternative to hypodermic needles, characterized by rapid and painless procedures, cost-effective fabrication methods, and reduced tissue damage. This study explores four MN designs, cone-shaped, tapered cone-shaped, pyramidal with a square base, and pyramidal with a triangular-shaped base, and their optimization based on predefined criteria.

Article Synopsis
  • Myopic traction maculopathy is a significant cause of vision issues, especially in Asian populations, prompting the need to explore effective treatments like macular buckling.
  • A systematic review analyzed 13 studies involving 482 eyes, evaluating the impact of macular buckling on visual acuity, axial length, and the rates of retinal reattachment and macular hole closure.
  • The results indicated notable improvements in best-corrected visual acuity, consistent reductions in axial length, and high rates of retinal reattachment (94%) and macular hole closure (72%), suggesting that macular buckling is a beneficial treatment option.

Introduction And Importance: Rasmussen encephalitis (RE) is a rare autoimmune disorder that causes unilateral inflammation of the cerebral cortex and can lead to drug-resistant epilepsy and progressive neurological decline. Although the emergence of RE following COVID-19 has not been well documented, it emphasizes the need to understand the impact of COVID-19 on neurological health. This case emphasizes the importance of early recognition and intervention to prevent adverse outcomes related to post-COVID-19 neurological complications.

Pakistan's health system has a critical role to play in global health security, however, it faces numerous structural and systemic challenges while contributing to international health efforts. Understanding the dynamics of health system is essential for developing effective strategies to prevent, detect, and respond to health emergencies, ensuring regional stability, and the overall global health security This paper documents the strengths and weaknesses of Pakistan's health systems, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges such as funding constraints and fragmented healthcare delivery, threats including antimicrobial resistance, and the importance of international collaboration. Anti-microbial particularly multi-drug resistance, food safety in emergencies, surge capacity of the frontline workforce, patient safety at the health care facilities to curtail healthcare associated infections, and strengthening the points of entry are still the areas that need special attention.

Fascin-1 (FSCN1) is recognized as an actin-binding protein, commonly exhibits up-regulation in breast cancer (BC) and is crucial for tumor invasion and metastasis. The existence of FSCN1 gene polymorphisms may raise the potential for developing BC, and there are still no studies focusing on the relationship between the FSCN1 rs2966447 variant and BC risk in Egyptian females. Thus, we investigated the serum fascin-1 levels in BC patients and the association between the FSCN1 rs2966447 variant with its serum levels and BC susceptibility.

Within the field of medical treatments, corticosteroids are potent substances that efficiently reduce inflammation and immunological responses, making them essential for the management of a wide range of medical ailments. However, continued use of these synthetic drugs presents a serious risk: the onset of osteoporosis brought on by corticosteroids. Determining the complex pathways by which corticosteroids cause a general disturbance in bone metabolism, suppress osteoblast function, increase osteoclast activity, and upset the delicate balance of bone remodelling emphasizes the need for all-encompassing management and prevention approaches.
