To predict post-transplantation MACE risk, we considered patients' demographics characteristics, diagnoses, medications, and procedural data recorded back to 3 years before the LT procedure date (index date).

Synthesis and Antileishmanial Evaluation of Arylimidamide-Azole Hybrids Containing a Phenoxyalkyl Linker.

Due to the limitations of existing medications, there is a critical need for new drugs to treat visceral leishmaniasis. Since arylimidamides and antifungal azoles both show oral activity in murine visceral leishmaniasis models, a molecular hybridization approach was employed where arylimidamide and azole groups were separated by phenoxyalkyl linkers in an attempt to capitalize on the favorable antileishmanial properties of both series. Among the target compounds synthesized, a greater antileishmanial potency against intracellular was observed as the linker length increased from two to eight carbons and when an imidazole ring was employed as the terminal group compared to a 1,2,4-triazole group.

Early Mortality in Patients who Received Extensive Surgical Management for Acute Type A Aortic Dissection - Analysis of 452 Consecutive Cases from a Single-center Experience.

Objective: To detect the potential risk factors associated with early mortality in patients who received extensive surgical management, in the form of total arch replacement plus frozen elephant trunk and arch debranching (hybrid repair technique), for acute type A aortic dissection.

Methods: The clinical and surgical data of 452 surgically treated patients with acute type A aortic dissection at our center, between March 2010 and December 2016, have been retrieved. Uni and multivariate logistic regression analyses were carried out to detect the effect of various preoperative demographics and different perioperative variables on early mortality.

Synthesis and antileishmanial evaluation of thiazole orange analogs.

Cyanine compounds have previously shown excellent in vitro and promising in vivo antileishmanial efficacy, but the potential toxicity of these agents is a concern. A series of 22 analogs of thiazole orange ((Z)-1-methyl-4-((3-methylbenzo[d]thiazol-2(3H)-ylidene)methyl)quinolin-1-ium salt), a commercial cyanine dye with antileishmanial activity, were synthesized in an effort to increase the selectivity of such compounds while maintaining efficacy. Cyanines possessing substitutions on the quinolinium ring system displayed potency against Leishmania donovani axenic amastigotes that differed little from the parent compound (IC 12-42 nM), while ring disjunction analogs were both less potent and less toxic.

Results: Significant statistical differences were obvious in the rate of canine retraction between each intervention and the control sides as following; the MOPs increased the rate of canine retraction by 1.

A human case of otoacariasis involving a histiostomatid mite (Acari: Histiostomatidae).

A 31-year-old Saudi man was seen at an ear, nose, and throat clinic at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with bilateral itching in the external auditory canal. On otoscopic examination, the skin lining the ear canal was thickened with whitish sheets of sloughed cells and thick discharge. Large numbers of mites of an undescribed species closely related to members of the genus Loxanoetus (Histiostomatidae) were present.

We described a Saudi patient infected with Diphyllobothrium latum D. latum. A 38-year-old male presented, complaining of passing worms.

An inguinal mass with local vascular lesions induced by a lymphatic filaria.

A 47-year-old Indian male presented with an inguinal mass clinically suspicious as a tumor. Histological examination of the excised mass demonstrated tissue reaction to degenerating intravascular adult filarial worms. The worms have been identified as a lymphatic filariae, most probably Wuchereria bancrofti.
