  • The study assessed a new surgical method called posterior lamellar wedge resection for removing benign lesions from lower eyelid margins, which aims to deliver better cosmetic results compared to traditional excision methods.
  • Researchers reviewed the outcomes and patient satisfaction of 42 participants over a median follow-up of about 24 months, where most had excellent cosmetic results and reported high satisfaction with their eyelid appearance.
  • Findings indicated no recurrence of lesions or need for additional surgeries, suggesting that this technique is effective and has low risk for complications.

Aim And Background: Chandler syndrome (CS) is one of the iridocorneal endothelial syndromes (ICEs) with proliferation of abnormal corneal endothelial cells over the anterior chamber (AC) angle and iris, resulting in complications, for example, secondary angle closure glaucoma (SACG). We report an association between CS and nanophthalmos, highlighting diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and pathological insights.

Case Description: A 46-year-old female patient presented with bilateral progressive blurring of vision.

Background: Despite the success of sleeve gastrectomy (SG) in of weight loss and treatment of the medical problems associated with obesity, some concerns have arisen about the need for revisional surgeries after SG in some patients. This study aimed to present an updated and comprehensive comparison among the presently available revisional surgeries employed explicitly in cases of inadequate outcomes after SG, which is the most frequently performed bariatric surgery in contemporary practice.

Methods: This network meta-analysis included studies that compared the outcomes of different revisional bariatric procedures after an inadequate outcome of SG.

Chlorpyrifos (CPF) is a widely used organophosphate insecticide that has been linked to detrimental health effects that range from neurological impacts to respiratory disease. The objective of this study was to assess respiratory symptoms associated with CPF exposure throughout the application season. Urine samples were collected from Egyptian adolescent applicators ( = 206) and non-applicators ( = 72) to assess 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCPy), a biomarker for CPF exposure, along with spirometry measures to determine lung ventilatory function.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on isolating and analyzing 30 ExPEC strains from sick camel calves that died from septicemia, highlighting their ability to cause systemic infections.
  • Six of the strains exhibited a hypermucoviscous phenotype, and several were found to be multidrug resistant, including resistance to colistin, which is a last-resort antibiotic.
  • The research also revealed that some strains have mixed virulence traits linked to intestinal pathotypes, indicating a genetic diversity that could enhance their resistance and pathogenic capabilities, suggesting potential risks for both animal health and zoonotic transmission to humans.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the connection between pesticide exposure, particularly organophosphates and pyrethroids, and ADHD symptoms in Egyptian adolescent males.
  • It involved 226 participants, where specific urinary biomarkers were measured to assess pesticide exposure and analyze their relationship with ADHD symptom severity.
  • Results indicated that only the biomarker cis-DCCA was linked to a higher likelihood of ADHD symptoms, with all participants exhibiting clinical levels of ADHD compared to U.S. national norms.

Concomitant ipsilateral intertrochanteric and femoral shaft fractures with metatarsal bone fractures in young adults are extremely rare, and there are only a few reports regarding these fractures in the literature. High-energy trauma is a well-known attributable factor for this type of fracture. In this report, we presented a rare case of ipsilateral intertrochanteric and femoral shaft fractures with metatarsal bone (MTB) fractures in a 42-year-old male patient who was a victim of a road traffic accident (RTA).

Background: Ineffective management of postoperative pain following pediatric cardiac surgeries adversely affects a patient's postoperative course. The erector spinae plane (ESP) block has been described in the literature regarding perioperative pain management. We hypothesized that bilateral ESP blocks in pediatric patients would decrease intraoperative fentanyl consumption, reduce the need for postoperative morphine consumption, and improve pain scores.

Background: Caudal anesthesia is an effective method of pain management, which can be successfully employed to minimize post-thoracotomy pain in pediatric patients. However, its main disadvantage is the short postoperative analgesic period, which can be prolonged by the concurrent administration of one of many adjuvants.

Objectives: This prospective randomized, blinded study aimed to compare the efficacy of dexmedetomidine versus morphine as adjuvants to bupivacaine in caudal anesthesia for thoracic surgeries in pediatric patients.

Objectives: In this double-blind randomized controlled clinical trial, we assumed that low-dose ketamine infusion will reduce the postoperative pain profile than the conventional method of morphine.

Methods: The scheduled patients for abdominoplasty under general anesthesia were recruited in two groups: group (K) with low-dose ketamine infusion intra-operatively (80 patients) and group (M) with morphine infusion intra-operatively (80 patients).
