Application of stem cells in combination with nanofibrous substrates is an interesting biomimetic approach for enhanced regeneration of damaged tissues such as bone and cartilage. The investigation of the complex interplay between nanotopographical cues of niche and noncoding RNAs in stem cells fate is an effective tool to find a new strategy for enhancing the induction of osteogenesis. Pyrimidine nucleosides are constituents of fundamental structure of the cells. There has been considerable attentions in the chemistry of pyrimidine derivatives due to having a wide range of biological activities such as antiviral, anti-malarial agents, cytostatic, antithelemintic, antibacterial, adenosine receptor ligands, anti-cancer agents, compounds targeting delayed-type hypersensivity and anti-convulsant agents. As a part of our research work in the synthesis of pyrimidines containing biological activities, a series of chromenopyrimidine derivatives were synthesized by reaction of an intermediate imine and ammonia derivatives in good to high yields.

Considerable attention has been focused on the synthesis of benzimidazoles due to having a broad spectrum of biological activities such as anti-parasitic, fungicidal, anti-thelemintic and anti-inflammatory activities. As a part of our research work in this area, a series of benzimidasole derivatives (3a-n) were synthesized in good to high yields by reaction of o-phenylenediamine and different aromatic aldehydes in the presence of sodium hexafluroaluminate, Na3AlF6, as an efficient catalyst at 50 (◦)C. This environmentally benign and practical method offers several advantages, such as high yields, use of available catalyst, mild reaction conditions and easy workup.

The inbred BDII rat is a valuable experimental model for the genetic analysis of hormone-dependent endometrial adenocarcinoma (EAC). One common aberration detected previously by comparative genomic hybridization in rat EAC is loss affecting mostly the middle part of rat chromosome 5 (RNO5). First, we applied an RNO5-specific painting probe and four region-specific gene probes onto tumor cell metaphases from 21 EACs, and found that rearrangements involving RNO5 were common.

Female rats of the inbred strain BDII are genetically predisposed to endometrial estrogen-dependent adenocarcinomas (EAC). More than 90% of them spontaneously develop this tumor type before the age of 24 months. In order to dissect out the genetic components behind these tumors we have made crosses between BDII females and rats from 2 other strains that are nonsusceptible to EAC.
