Aims: Current guidelines offer limited strategies for managing recurrent/persistent oesophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). Salvage endoscopic mucosal/submucosal resection (ER) shows promise in oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma, however its success in EAC is limited. We aimed to elucidate histological characteristics influencing salvage ER success in patients with low-stage, pretreated EAC.

Esophagectomy specimens from 151 treatment-naïve and 121 treated patients with EAC were reviewed. DG was defined as discrete (≥2 mm away) tumor foci identified at the periphery of the main tumor in the submucosa, muscularis propria, and/or periadventitial tissue.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFOsteoid osteomas typically arise in the long bones of extremities. Patients often report pain relieved by NSAIDS, and radiographic findings are often sufficient for diagnosis. However, when involving the hands/feet, these lesions may go unrecognized or misdiagnosed radiographically due to their small size and prominent reactive changes.

This retrospective crossover analysis of nine patients aims to add to the limited existing literature on IHD-RCE and address the equipoise regarding whether the benefits of (a) decreased RBC usage per exchange and (b) increased interprocedure interval (via lower fraction of cells remaining, FCR) can be observed at the same time, in the same patient.
Methods: At a single center, we identified 37 patients with SCD undergoing chronic RCE between 2014 and 2021.
Background: Acute kidney injury is now recognized as a common complication of coronavirus disease 2019, affecting up to 46% of patients, with acute tubular injury as the most common etiology. Recently, we have seen an increase in cases of collapsing glomerulonephritis in patients with coronavirus disease 2019, also known as coronavirus disease 2019-associated nephropathy. It has been noted to be seen with a higher incidence in African American patients who are carriers of the APOL1 variant allele.

However, predicting clinical outcomes from pre-treatment histopathologic images remains a challenging task, limited by the poor understanding of tumor immune micro-environments. In this study, an automatic, accurate, comprehensive, interpretable, and reproducible whole slide image (WSI) feature extraction pipeline known as, IMage-based Pathological REgistration and Segmentation Statistics (IMPRESS), is described.

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) can be used to detect chromosomal aneuploidy in biliary brushing specimens, and when used as an adjunct to routine cytology, it significantly improves diagnostic sensitivity. (2) Methods: We searched our laboratory information system to identify all bile duct brush cytology cases with follow-up surgical pathology between January 2001 and September 2019.

Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Response (DRESS) syndrome is a rare hypersensitivity reaction characterized by rash, fever, lymphadenopathy, and visceral involvement. The liver is frequently involved in DRESS, with increased liver enzymes and hepatomegaly. Over 40 drugs have been implicated in the induction of DRESS, however other illicit substances have also been linked to this.

Most cases affect the skin, isolated involvement of the upper respiratory tract without skin involvement is extremely rare with only a few cases reported in the literature. We present a case of isolated nasopharyngeal KS in an immunocompetent patient who achieved remission after multimodality therapy.

The patient presented with a partial intestinal obstruction in an abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan suggestive of a GIST. Surgical resection was performed, and adjuvant therapy was initiated with imatinib (a tyrosine kinase inhibitor) after the diagnosis was confirmed.

However, generating adequate labels for these structures is a critical barrier, given the time and effort required from pathologists.
Results: This article describes a novel collaborative framework for engaging crowds of medical students and pathologists to produce quality labels for cell nuclei.
Germ cell differentiation has been described in association with somatic tumors arising from several organ systems; rare cases arising from urothelium have been reported. Here we present a 62-year-old male with a remote history of lung cancer, a left adrenal gland mass, and a 5.6 cm left bladder wall mass; cystoscopy demonstrated a large papillary mass on the left anterior bladder wall.

Treatment for PDAC is dependent not only on stage at diagnosis, but complex anatomical relationships. Recently, the therapeutic approach to this disease has shifted from upfront surgery for technically resectable lesions to a neoadjuvant therapy first approach.
