AA amyloidosis is a rare and significant complication of long-term inflammation that can be caused by a variety of disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease, and is linked to an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. To date, there has been no effective direct treatment, and treatment aims at treating the underlying condition with potent immunosuppression to limit inflammatory activity and, as a result, switch off amyloidogenesis. Theoretically, biological treatment can control AA amyloidosis by inducing and maintaining inflammatory bowel disease remission and inhibiting the synthesis of Serum Amyloid A, which is an acute phase reactant and precursor protein of AA amyloidosis that accumulates in the organs.

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble prohormone that is activated inside the liver to produce 25-hydroxyvitamin D (calcidiol), and in the kidney to produce the fully active 1α, 25-dihydroxy vitamin D (calcitriol). A previous work piloted in our laboratory, resulted in a successful recovery of a local soil-promising Actinomyces hyovaginalis isolate CCASU-A11-2 capable of converting vitamin D into calcitriol. Despite the rising amount of research on vitamin D bioconversion into calcitriol, further deliberate studies on this topic can significantly contribute to the improvement of such a bioconversion process.

Strong biofilm-forming Enterococcus feacalis urinary tract pathogens (n = 35) were used to determine the lytic spectrum of six bacteriophages isolated from sewage samples. Only 17 Enterococcus feacalis isolates gave lytic zones with the tested bacteriophages from which five isolates were susceptible to all of them.
