The magnetic state of low temperature martensite phase in Co-substituted Ni-Mn-Sn-based ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAs) has been investigated, in view of numerous conflicting reports of occurrences of spin glass (SG), superparamagnetism (SPM) or long range anti-ferromagnetic (AF) ordering. Combination of DC magnetization, AC susceptibility and small angle neutron scattering (SANS) studies provide clear evidence for AF order in the martensitic phase of NiCoMnSn alloy and rule out SPM and SG orders. Identical studies on another alloy of close composition, NiCoMnSn, point to the presence of SG order in the martensitic phase and the absence of SPM behavior, contrary to earlier reports.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), and schwannomatosis (SWN) are three clinically distinct tumor predisposition syndromes with a shared tendency to develop peripheral and central nervous system neoplasms. Disease expression and complications of NF1, NF2, and SWN are highly variable, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach to care in order to optimize outcomes. This review will discuss the imaging appearance of NF1, NF2, and SWN and highlight the important role that imaging plays in informing management decisions in people with tumors associated with these syndromes.

Objective: To determine the utility of quantitative metrics obtained from fMRI using diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI)/apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) mapping compared with metabolic (F-fluorodeoxyglucose [FDG]-PET/CT) imaging in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) for the characterization of peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNSTs) as benign or malignant.

Methods: This Institutional Review Board-approved, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant study retrospectively reviewed imaging of 55 PNSTs in 21 patients with NF1. Imaging included anatomic (unenhanced T1, fluid-sensitive, contrast-enhanced T1-weighted), functional DWI (b = 50, 400, 800 s/mm) and ADC mapping, magnetic resonance sequences, and FDG-PET/CT imaging.

Peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerases (PPIase) exhibit chaperone activity and assist in protein folding by increasing the rate of cis-trans transition on proline-peptide bonds. The current study aimed to identify and characterize three genes, ppiA, ppiB, and ppiC, which encode proteins of the PPIase family in the bacterium Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. Traumatic peripheral nerve injury occurs more frequently in the pediatric population than previously recognized. High-resolution magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the form of MR neurography can serve as a powerful noninvasive tool for detecting and characterizing peripheral nerve injury in children. Binary Fe-Cu alloys are effective prototypes for investigating radiation-induced formation and growth of nanometric Cu-rich precipitates (CRPs) in nuclear reactor pressure vessels. In this report, the temporal evolution of CRPs during thermal aging of Fe-Cu binary alloys has been investigated by using complementary techniques such as atom probe tomography (APT) and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). We report a detailed quantitative evolution of a rarely observed morphological transformation of Cu precipitates from spherical to ellipsoid with a significant change (approximately two times) in aspect ratio, an effect known to be associated with the 9R-3R structural transition of the precipitates.
