Many materials used in energy devices or applications suffer from the problem of electron-hole pair recombination. One promising way to overcome this problem is the use of heterostructures in place of a single material. If an electric dipole forms at the interface, such a structure can lead to a more efficient electron-hole pair separation and thus prevent recombination.

An Intervention Delivered by Mobile Phone Instant Messaging to Increase Acceptability and Use of Effective Contraception Among Young Women in Bolivia: Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Although the most effective methods of contraception are available in Bolivia, unmet need for contraception among women aged 15 to 19 years is estimated to be 38% (2008), and the adolescent fertility rate is 71 per 1000 women (2016). Mobile phones are a popular mode to deliver health behavior support. We developed a contraceptive behavioral intervention for young Bolivian women delivered by mobile phone and guided by behavioral science.

Magnetoelectric ϵ-FeO: DFT study of a potential candidate for electrode material in photoelectrochemical cells.

The metastable iron oxide ϵ-FeO is rare but known for its magnetoelectric properties. While the more common alpha phase has been recognized for a long time as a suitable material for photoelectrochemical cells, its use is limited because of the electron-hole recombination problem when exposed to light. The indirect bandgap of the epsilon phase with its spontaneous polarization may offer a better potential for the application in photoelectrochemistry.

Background: Internet-accessed sexually transmitted infection testing (e-STI testing) is increasingly available as an alternative to testing in clinics. Typically this testing modality enables users to order a test kit from a virtual service (via a website or app), collect their own samples, return test samples to a laboratory, and be notified of their results by short message service (SMS) or telephone. e-STI testing is assumed to increase access to testing in comparison with face-to-face services, but the evidence is unclear.

Radical Treatment of Rectal Cancer in Elderly Is Feasible than Feared: Results from a Tertiary Care Centre.

The thought of subjecting an elderly patient with rectal cancer to protocol-based neoadjuvant chemoradiation (NACTRT), surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy is sought with fear due to their multiple comorbidities and impaired functional status associated with the process of ageing. Hence, many a times the treatment is compromised and it is a fact that this subgroup of patients is underrepresented in most of the clinical trials. This study was aimed at analysing the perioperative and oncologic outcomes after protocol-based treatment of rectal cancer in the elderly patients, defined here as those with age ≥70 years.

Anorectal melanoma: experience from a tertiary cancer care centre in South India.

Introduction Mucosal malignant melanoma of the anorectum is a rare and aggressive disease, in which early diagnosis is difficult. The prognosis remains extremely poor, irrespective of the treatment. We share our experience in treating this malignancy at our centre in South India.

Pregabalin Toxicity Manifesting as Reversible Encephalopathy With Continuous Triphasic Waves in Electroencephalogram.

A 74-year-old man with peripheral neuropathy due to diabetes presented with deliberate ingestion of 450 mg of pregabalin (PBG) over a period of 8 hours followed by altered mental status. A bedside electroencephalogram was performed to rule out nonconvulsive status epilepticus, which showed continuous triphasic waves (TWs) with slow background activity. He recovered after 48 hours of stopping PBG, and his repeat electroencephalogram after 72 hours did not show any TWs.

Case Report of Salmonella gallinarum Urinary Tract Infection in a Renal Allograft Recipient.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by nontyphoidal Salmonella in a renal allograft recipient are a rare occurrence. Although there is some existing literature on Salmonella typhi bacteriuria and non-typhoidal bacteriuria, none of the cases has been reported in a renal transplant patient. This case report describes a rare instance in which group D Salmonella was isolated from a renal allograft recipient's urine culture and the patient was successfully treated with antibiotics.

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of Vulva-11 Years' Single-Institution Experience.

Introduction: Adenoid cystic carcinoma of vulva (ACC-vulva) is an extremely rare entity with <100 cases reported in the literature so far.

Objective: To study the clinical profile and outcome of ACC-vulva treated at a tertiary cancer care centre in South India.

Methods: This is a retrospective, record-based study of histopathologically confirmed cases of ACC-vulva treated at our centre from January 2005 to March 2016.

An epidemiologic study was carried out to investigate the prevalence and analysis of risk of Cryptosporidium infection in lambs in Jammu district. Faecal samples of 120 lambs of different age groups viz., <1 month, 1-3 months and 3-6 months were assessed.

Occurrence and histopathology of Przhevalskiana silenus larvae infestation in sheep of Jammu, India.

Warble fly infestation is primarily a myiasis of cattle and goat. However, a nondescript sheep from an endemic region was observed with nodules under subcutaneous tissue. So, this paper reports infestation of a sheep with Przhevalskiana silenus larvae in Jammu region of North India.

Field efficacy of minidosed pour-on ivermectin and eprinomectin against goat warble fly infestation by Przhevalskiana silenus.

The efficacy of minidose of pour-on ivermectin and eprinomectin formulations against first instar larvae of Przhevalskiana silenus was observed in naturally infested goats in the Jammu region, North India. The study was performed in mid August 2011. A total of 280 goats were randomly divided in to 7 groups of 40 each.

Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the stomach - a rare pathological entity.

Hepatoid adenocarcinoma is a rare cancer with an extremely poor prognosis. Here, we describe two cases referred to our hospital with suspected gastric cancer. Gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed lesions in the stomach.

Squamous cell carcinoma arising from long-standing perianal fistula.

Perianal fistula is a very common problem in general population. Ninety percent of perianal fistulae arise from infected anal glands, and they often give rise to perianal abscesses. Very rarely perianal fistulae and abscesses undergo malignant transformation and give rise to carcinomas, mainly adenocarcinomas.

Pre-tertiary hospital care of patients with chronic kidney disease in India.

Background & Objectives: There is paucity of data available on how chronic kidney disease (CKD) is treated before referral to a tertiary hospital. This study was conducted to assess pre-tertiary hospital care of patients with CKD 5 at their presentation to nephrology services at a tertiary care hospital.

Methods: Over a period of 8 months, consecutive patients with CKD 5 presenting at the Nephrology services at Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, and their relatives were interviewed to assess the pre-tertiary hospital care and knowledge about CKD 5 and its treatment.

Management options for Kommerell's diverticulum.

An aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA) arising from a left-sided aortic arch (LAA) is an uncommon aortic arch anomaly. Aneurysms of ARSA arising from different degrees of Kommerell's diverticulum may modify surgical approach. We describe a safe technique for the surgical management of ARSA aneurysm in a 67-year-old gentleman.
