Recently, cases of antifreeze poisoning in companion animals, particularly cats, have surged in the Republic of Korea. Ethylene glycol (EG), the toxic primary component of antifreeze, is metabolized into glycolic acid (GA), leading to severe metabolic acidosis, acute kidney injury, and death. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a 7-day oral care program based on an aroma solution in 58 dementia patients (29 each in the experimental and control groups) admitted to a long-term care hospital in South Korea.

Outbreak of severe diarrhea due to zoonotic Cryptosporidium parvum and C. xiaoi in goat kids in Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea.

Severe diarrhea was reported in goat kids in Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea, from 2021 to 2023, and Cryptosporidium infection was suspected. To confirm the cause of this outbreak, fecal samples were collected from goat farms where diarrhea had been reported and analyzed for Cryptosporidium infection using a molecular assay. A total of 65 fecal samples, including 37 from goats with diarrhea and 28 from goats without diarrhea, were collected from six goat farms.

Insertional biceps tendinopathy palliated successfully with intra-articular triamcinolone acetonide injection in a dog: A case report.

This report describes a dog diagnosed with insertional biceps tendinopathy that was palliated with intra-articular triamcinolone acetonide injections. The patient was a 6-year-old spayed female Chihuahua dog that had left thoracic limb lameness for 3 months before presentation. On physical examination, moderate pain was elicited by performing the biceps test and isolated full elbow extension on the left thoracic limb.

We aimed to report the incidence and severity of nonionic low-osmolar iodine contrast medium (ICM)-related adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in the Republic of Korea, by analyzing data from our single tertiary institution and published Korean reports, and to determine whether there is a difference in the incidence of ICM-related ADR by ICM generics. A total of 1,161,419 consecutive contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) examinations between January 2016 and December 2021 at Asan Medical Center were included. A systematic search of the literature investigating the incidence of ICM-related ADR in the Republic of Korea published up to December 31, 2021 was performed.

Two-channel EEG based diagnosis of panic disorder and major depressive disorder using machine learning and non-linear dynamical methods.

The current study aimed to investigate the possibility of rapid and accurate diagnoses of Panic disorder (PD) and Major depressive disorder (MDD) using machine learning. The support vector machine method was applied to 2-channel EEG signals from the frontal lobes (Fp1 and Fp2) of 149 participants to classify PD and MDD patients from healthy individuals using non-linear measures as features. We found significantly lower correlation dimension and Lempel-Ziv complexity in PD patients and MDD patients in the left hemisphere compared to healthy subjects at rest.
