International perspectives on LI-RADS.

Given the crucial role of imaging in HCC diagnosis, LI-RADS CT/MRI was developed to standardize the imaging interpretation and reporting of HCC in patients at risk for HCC and categorize hepatic observations on an ordinal scale according to the likelihood of HCC. LI-RADS has since been expanded to include 5 algorithms: LI-RADS US Surveillance, contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) LI-RADS, LI-RADS CT/MRI, and LI-RADS Treatment Response Assessment. LI-RADS has been adopted broadly in North America, however with less ubiquitous adoption outside of North America.

Wandering Liver: A Case Report With Clinical and Radiological Insights.

Wandering liver (WL) is an exceptionally rare anatomical variant, scarcely described in the medical literature. This condition is characterized by hypermobility of the liver within the abdominal cavity, resulting from the weakening, laxity, or absence of the liver's suspensory ligaments. This case report describes a 28-year-old male patient with a history of Sashi-Pena syndrome who presented with chronic, nonspecific abdominal pain, in which cross-sectional imaging incidentally revealed WL.

Nano-encapsulation of essential amino acids: ruminal methane, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide and fermentation.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nano-encapsulation of four essential amino acids (AA), threonine, methionine, tryptophan, and lysine on in vitro ruminal total gas, methane, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen sulfide production as well as the rumen fermentation profile in cattle. The highest (P < 0.001) rate and asymptotic gas production after 48 h of incubation was observed in the diets that had threonine, followed by lysine, methionine, and tryptophan.

Spleen anomalies and lesions in CT and MRI: essentials for radiologists and clinicians-a pictorial review.

The precise evaluation of splenic lesions using cross-sectional imaging presents a complex challenge due to the overlapping imaging characteristics of most splenic diseases and the absence of specific symptoms, complicating the diagnosis process. This pictorial review highlights the essential elements that should be included in a radiology report to interpret cross-sectional imaging studies of splenic lesions. To augment the diagnostic accuracy, we propose the implementation of a stepwise algorithmic approach.

Spanish validation of the short version of the racing and crowded thoughts questionnaire (RCTQ-13).

Background: The Racing and Crowded Thoughts Questionnaire (RCTQ-13) is the most widely used specific scale for the measurement of racing thoughts, but there is currently no Spanish version that allow the evaluation in Spanish-speaking patients. The objective of this study is to translate, adapt, and validate the RCTQ-13 in a Colombian population with affective disorders.

Methods: The questionnaire was translated and back-translated, and corrections were implemented following a pilot test to improve comprehensibility.

Ecology of the free-living stages of cattle nematodes in the dry season in the Lerma Valley, Salta province, Argentina.

The objective of this work was to describe the dynamics of development and survival of the free-living stages of cattle gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) in fecal matter (FM) and pasture during the dry season in the Lerma Valley, Salta province, northwestern Argentina (NWA) to contribute to GIN management. The climate in the region is characterized by a rainy summer followed by a dry season from middle autumn to early spring. Fecal matter from calves naturally infected with GIN was deposited on three experimental field plots in April, July and October 2019, corresponding to the beginning, middle and end of the dry season, respectively.

A first-in-class leucyl-tRNA synthetase inhibitor, ganfeborole, for rifampicin-susceptible tuberculosis: a phase 2a open-label, randomized trial.

New tuberculosis treatments are needed to address drug resistance, lengthy treatment duration and adverse reactions of available agents. GSK3036656 (ganfeborole) is a first-in-class benzoxaborole inhibiting the Mycobacterium tuberculosis leucyl-tRNA synthetase. Here, in this phase 2a, single-center, open-label, randomized trial, we assessed early bactericidal activity (primary objective) and safety and pharmacokinetics (secondary objectives) of ganfeborole in participants with untreated, rifampicin-susceptible pulmonary tuberculosis.

Aberrant Right and Left Gastric Veins as a Cause of Hepatic Pseudolesions: A Report of Three Cases.

The complex structure of the liver and its elaborate hemodynamics can cause hepatic pseudolesions on contrast-enhanced imaging, making the interpretation of diagnostic liver imaging challenging. Aberrant gastric veins are rare; most of their epidemiology data comes from small single-center studies. While current literature suggests that pseudolesions originating from aberrant gastric veins mainly present as hyperdense defects, some cases can also show up as hypodense, as shown in these cases.

Purpose: Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) is a rare inherited disease mainly characterized by the growth of tumours, predominantly hemangioblastomas (Hbs) in the CNS and retina, and renal carcinomas. The natural history of VHL disease is variable, differing in the age of onset and its penetrance, even among relatives. Unfortunately, sometimes VHL shows more severe than average: the onset starts in adolescence, and surgeries are required almost every year.

A Multicenter Assessment of Interreader Reliability of LI-RADS Version 2018 for MRI and CT.

Background Various limitations have impacted research evaluating reader agreement for Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS). Purpose To assess reader agreement of LI-RADS in an international multicenter multireader setting using scrollable images. Materials and Methods This retrospective study used deidentified clinical multiphase CT and MRI and reports with at least one untreated observation from six institutions and three countries; only qualifying examinations were submitted.

The Diverging Trend in Exposure to Environmental Tobacco Smoke Among US Children.

Objective: Environmental tobacco smoke exposure (ETSE) was race/ethnicity-specific, but how the race/ethnicity-specific ETSE has changed over time, diverging or converging, remains unclear. We examined ETSE trends by race/ethnicity in US children aged 3-11 years.

Methods: We analyzed the data of 9678 children who participated in the biennial National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, 1999-2018.

Diagnostic evaluation of nCoV-QS, nCoV-QM-N, and nCoV-OM detection kits based on rRT-PCR for detection of SARS-CoV-2 in Ecuador.

Background: Ecuador was harshly impacted by COVID-19, in the region was the epicenter of the pandemic with the highest mortality rates and with the lowest rates of processed samples. Real-time reverse transcription PCR assays are essential to identify and manage the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak. Because of the global emergency, in Ecuador several commercial kits were introduced for use without clinical validation.

Setting up regional diagnostic reference levels for pediatric interventional cardiology in Latin America and the Caribbean countries: preliminary results and identified challenges.

The goal of the present study was to propose a set of preliminary regional diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for pediatric interventional cardiology (IC) procedures in Latin America and the Caribbean countries, classified by age and weight groups. The study was conducted in the framework of the Optimization of Protection in Pediatric Interventional Radiology in Latin America and the Caribbean program coordinated by the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The first step of the program was focused on pediatric IC.

Interventions for Basal Cell Carcinoma: Summary of Main Comparisons From a Cochrane Review and a Practical Interpretation of Findings.

Numerous surgical and nonsurgical modalities are available to treat basal cell carcinoma (BCC), but their true effectiveness and safety is unknown. This article summarizes the evidence presented in a recent Cochrane review and aims to facilitate the interpretation of the review's findings for the Spanish and Latin American scientific communities. Much of the evidence the reviewers found came from single studies, preventing meta-analysis.

Biosynthesis of triacsin featuring an N-hydroxytriazene pharmacophore.

Triacsins are an intriguing class of specialized metabolites possessing a conserved N-hydroxytriazene moiety not found in any other known natural products. Triacsins are notable as potent acyl-CoA synthetase inhibitors in lipid metabolism, yet their biosynthesis has remained elusive. Through extensive mutagenesis and biochemical studies, we here report all enzymes required to construct and install the N-hydroxytriazene pharmacophore of triacsins.

Temporal trends in routine predischarge pulse oximetry screening: 6 years' experience in a UK regional neonatal unit.

Objectives: To evaluate the continued impact of pulse oximetry screening (POS) in a regional neonatal unit (NNU) and identify trends in screening outcomes in comparison with our previous experience.

Design: Retrospective review of admissions between April 2013 and March 2019 (the current study) and comparison with previously published data (the 2014 study).

Patients: All infants >34 weeks completed gestation admitted to NNU as a result of positive POS.

Background: The etiology of Kawasaki disease (KD) is unknown. It is believed that viral infections could trigger the disease in susceptible patients.

Aim: To study the temporal association between the circulation of respiratory viruses and KD hospitalizations in the Metropolitan Region (MR), Chile, between 2010-2017.
