Leidenfrost puddles exhibit erratic bubble bursts that release vapor trapped beneath the liquid, becoming amorphous and unstable. We report a method to stabilize and design a Leidenfrost puddle. When a thin hydrophilic layer with a suitable design is placed over the liquid, the puddle adopts the layer shape due to adhesive forces and becomes stable.

Article Synopsis
  • A 48-year-old male developed nonparaneoplasic autoimmune retinopathy (nPAIR) after experiencing chronic graft versus host disease (GVHD) following an allogenic stem cell transplantation (ASCT).
  • The patient showed symptoms like rapid vision loss, optic disc edema, and cystoid macular edema (CME), which led doctors to examine for autoimmune retinopathy, eventually confirming the presence of antirecoverin antibodies.
  • Early diagnosis is crucial for nPAIR due to its irreversible vision loss, and this case highlights the importance of recognizing typical symptoms to facilitate timely treatment.

Hybrid bionanocomposites based on cellulose matrix, with silica nanoparticles as reinforcers, were prepared by one-pot synthesis of cellulose surface modified by solvent exchange method to keep the biopolymer net void for hosting inorganic nanoparticles. Neither expensive inorganic-particle precursors nor crosslinker agents or catalysts were used for effective dispersion of reinforcer concentration up to 50 wt %. Scanning electron microscopy of the nanocomposites shows homogeneous dispersion of reinforcers in the surface modified cellulose matrix.

Filamentous fungi are microorganisms widely known for their diverse biochemical features. Fungi can efficiently invade a wide variety of substrates under operational conditions producing numerous bioproducts of interest, such as enzymes, organic acids, aromatic compounds and colorants. An additional interesting characteristic of some fungi is their safety classification for different uses, which guarantees that the bioproducts obtained from them do not contain any toxic component deleterious to humans.
