Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro effects of coffee exposure on the color and roughness of conventional and bulk-fill resin composites, with and without surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) filler.
Methodology: Forty-eight cylindrical samples (Ø6 mm × 2 mm) were prepared and categorized as follows (n = 12 per group): conventional nano-hybrid (Tetric N-Ceram, Ivoclar); nano-hybrid with S-PRG filler (Beautifil II, Shofu); bulk-fill (Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill, Ivoclar); and bulk-fill with S-PRG filler (Beautifil Bulk Restorative, Shofu). The samples were assessed for surface roughness (Ra, μm), color coordinates (CIE Lb), and overall color change (ΔE, ΔE).
The extent of alien taxa impacts on river ecosystem health is unclear, but their frequency continues to rise. We investigated 1) the prevalence of including alien taxa in common bioindicators used in river bioassessment, 2) the effect of alien taxa on the richness and abundance of natives, and 3) whether including alien taxa in bioassessment tools increased their sensitivity to river degradation. In the 17 countries analyzed fish represented the greatest number of alien species (1726), followed by macrophytes (925), macroinvertebrates (556), and diatoms (7).

This study introduces a novel preprocessing algorithm to bridge the gap between computational efficiency and segmentation fidelity in object-based image analysis for machine learning applications. The algorithm integrates convolutional operations, quantization strategies, and polynomial transformations to optimize image segmentation in complex visual environments, addressing the limitations of traditional pixel-level and unsupervised methods.

Difficulties have hampered bioassessment in southern European rivers due to limited reference data and the unclear impact of multiple interacting stressors on plant communities. Predictive modelling may help overcome this limitation by aggregating different pressures affecting aquatic organisms and showing the most influential factors. We assembled a dataset of 292 Mediterranean sampling locations on perennial rivers and streams (mainland Portugal) with macrophyte and environmental data.

Background: Proper analysis and interpretation of health care data can significantly improve patient outcomes by enhancing services and revealing the impacts of new technologies and treatments. Understanding the substantial impact of temporal shifts in these data is crucial. For example, COVID-19 vaccination initially lowered the mean age of at-risk patients and later changed the characteristics of those who died.

Aims: Nanoemulsions based on plant essential oils have shown promise as alternatives against fungal pathogens by increasing the solubility and bioavailability of the active compounds of essential oils, which can improve their efficacy and safety. In the present study, we aimed to prepare and characterize nanoemulsions of Lippia origanoides essential oil, and analyze their antifungal activity against C. albicans in planktonic and biofilm form.

Additionally, we sought to identify and analyze predictive factors associated with better transition readiness skills in adolescent and young adult (AYAs) patients.
Methods: This is a monocentric cross-sectional study that includes patients between 14 and 26 years of age who attended outpatient pediatric and young adult rheumatology appointments between October and December of 2023 and that were diagnosed with an immune-mediated rheumatic disease before reaching 18 years of age, with at least 1 year of disease duration.

Forearm non-union poses a challenge in orthopaedic surgery due to its intricate anatomy and functional significance. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the assessment, diagnosis and management of forearm non-union. Initial evaluation involves a meticulous history, physical examination and imaging studies to identify factors contributing to non-union, including infection.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included women aged 18 years and older who underwent treatment between January 2007 and December 2020. Male patients, individuals diagnosed with invasive or microinvasive disease based on anatomopathological examination of surgical specimens, and those with a personal history of any other cancers were excluded.

Total endovascular aortic arch repair is nowadays a promising alternative for selected patients with aortic arch disease. These endovascular procedures are technically challenging and require a diligent planning among all members of a multidisciplinary "Aorta Team" integrating cardiovascular anesthesiologists. In fact, endovascular aortic arch repair is a major challenge for anesthesiologists because of the risk of hemodynamic instability, cerebral events and acute kidney injury.

Background: Since bleaching gels can cause adverse effects on tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate new remineralizing agents on the market and their effects.
Material And Methods: Seventy-five bovine enamel/dentin blocks (4x4x3mm) were randomly divided into six groups (n=10): Negative Control (NC) with no bleaching treatment or brushing; 10 CP (Carbamide Peroxide) (no brushing - Whiteness Perfect FGM); CT12 + 10 CP (Colgate Total® 12); ES + 10 CP (Elmex® Sensitive); BPC + 10 CP (Bianco® ProClinical); CMP + 10 CP (Colgate® Máxima Proteção Anticáries). The color was evaluated by reflectance spectrophotometry (∆E*ab, ∆E00, and ∆WID) at times T1 (baseline), T2 (24 hours after brushing), and T3 (24 hours after bleaching).
Purpose: To evaluate how fluoride- or chitosan-based toothpaste used during at-home bleaching affects enamel roughness, tooth color, and staining susceptibility.
Methods: Bovine enamel blocks were submitted to a 14-day cycling regime considering a factorial design (bleaching agent x toothpaste, 2 x 3), with n=10: (1) bleaching with 16% carbamide peroxide (CP) or 6% hydrogen peroxide (HP), and (2) daily exposure of a fluoride (1,450 ppm F-NaF) toothpaste (FT), chitosan-based toothpaste (CBT), or distilled water (control). Then, 24 hours after the last day of bleaching procedure the samples were exposed to a coffee solution.
Background: The International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR) classification system for juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) does not depict homogenous subgroups of disease. As to unify our language with the adult rheumatic diseases, the Pediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organization (PRINTO) is attempting to revise these criteria.
Objective: To reclassify a JIA sample according to the new provisional PRINTO subsets: systemic JIA (sJIA), RF-positive JIA (RF-JIA), early-onset ANA-positive JIA (eoANA-JIA), enthesitis/spondylitis-related JIA (ESR-JIA), "other JIA" and "unclassified JIA".
