Background: Tractography allows the in vivo study of subcortical white matter, and it is a potential tool for providing predictive indices on post-operative outcomes. We aim at establishing whether there is a relation between cognitive outcome and the status of the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus's (IFOF's) microstructure.
Methods: The longitudinal neuropsychological data of thirty young (median age: 35 years) patients operated on for DLGG in the left temporo-insular cortex along with pre-surgery tractography data were processed.
Blood-based biomarkers are minimally invasive tools to detect the pathological changes of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). This meta-analysis aims to investigate the use of blood-derived p-tau isoforms (181, 217, 231) to predict conversion from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to AD dementia (ADD). Studies involving MCI patients with data on blood p-tau isoforms at baseline and clinical diagnosis at follow-up (≥1 year) were included.

The recombinant yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae ER T12.7 strain was tested for its ability to produce ethanol from unripe rice.

The negative effects of these simultaneous stressors can be additive or can interact in negative synergistic or antagonistic ways to affect the health of exposed individuals. Parasites can accumulate pollutants in their own tissues and have been shown to increase the tolerance of their hosts to different pollutants (antagonistic interaction between parasites and pollutants).

We carried out a longitudinal investigation by comparing the patients' language profile, and, in particular, the object-naming skills and the associated fMRI network, of pre-surgery and follow-up (i.e.

However, its large-scale production is limited by technical challenges, with low H yields and the absence of robust microbial strains being the major ones. To address these limitations, H-producing microbes have been isolated from a full-scale anaerobic digestor treating complex organic waste.

Recent studies shed light on several clinical factors responsible for the good clinical status observed in these patients versus those with their symptomatic counterpart (sLGGs), including small volume. Comparisons were typically carried out by comparing iLGGs with the wider and more heterogeneous sLGG group.

We investigated whether circulating miRNAs can predict RR-to-SPMS conversion. A serum miRNAs profile was initially analyzed in a cross-sectional study by qPCR in 16 patients (8 RRMS and 8 SPMS) (Discovery cohort).

The success of HSV1 as a pathogen relates to its sophisticated strategies to evade host immunosurveillance. One strategy involves encoding a decoy Fcγ receptor (FcγR) that thwarts the Fcγ-mediated effector functions, such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), a potent host immunosurveillance mechanism against virally infected cells.

We assess the additional benefit of the ADC map in detecting prostate cancer (PCa). Additionally, we examine whether the ADC value correlates with the presence of clinically significant tumors (csPCa).

Yet, the relative contribution of breeding dates and temperature conditions during gestation on fitness of females and their offspring is poorly documented in reptiles. Here, we exposed females of the common lizard Zootoca vivipara to contrasting thermal scenarios (cold vs.

The Sr/Sr ratio (SrIR) signature of lemons and soils was investigated to verify its reliability to trace the PGI lemons and to highlight environmental factors responsible of the lemon SrIRs. The SrIR ranges of each PGI lemon were not discriminating as they overlapped with each other and some non-PGI lemon SrIRs fell within these ranges.

Aim of the present study is to verify if the expression of LMP2A and EBNA-1, two EBV genes, is altered in MS patients. EBV viral load, LMP2A and EBNA-1 gene expression and EBNA-1 antibodies titers were evaluated in blood of EBV-seropositive MS patients ( = 57; 31 relapsing remitting -RRMS- and 26 progressive -PMS-patients) and age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HC, = 49).

We combined a pre-surgical measure (fMRI maps of motor- and language-related centers) with intra-surgical measures (MNI-registered cortical sites data obtained during intra-operative direct electrical stimulation, DES, while they performed the two most common language tasks: number counting and picture naming). Selective DES effects along the precentral gyrus/inferior frontal gyrus (and/or the connected speech articulation network) were obtained.

Plasticity could take place as a compensatory process following brain glioma growth. Only a few studies specifically explored plasticity in patients affected by a glioma invading the left insula; even more, plasticity of the insular cortex in task-based functional language network is almost unexplored. In the current study, we explored potential plasticity in a consecutive series of 22 patients affected by a glioma centered to the left insula, by comparing their preoperative object-naming functional network with that of a group of healthy controls.

Bi-functionalized liposomes that can cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) may be used to release Glb into the central nervous system (CNS), overcoming its poor solubility and bioavailability. Here, we analyzed in vitro the effect of Glb-loaded nanovectors (GNVs) and Glb itself on NLRP3 inflammasome activation using a lipopolysaccharide- and nigericine-activated THP-1 cell model.

Ocean warming drives not only the increase of known coral disease prevalence but facilitates the emergence of new undescribed ones too. As climate change is restructuring coral ecosystems, novel biological interactions could lead to an increase in coral disease in both tropical and marginal coral communities. White Mat Syndrome (WMS) represents one such emerging coral disease, with outbreaks associated with high algal interactions and seasonal summer temperatures.
