Purpose: Evaluate the hearing outcomes of bilateral deaf children implanted simultaneously and define the most appropriate timing for surgery.

We report the case of a 64-year-old patient who previously had an aortic valve replacement with a stentless aortic valve and an ascending aorta replacement for a DeBakey type II aortic dissection. The patient was referred to us for symptomatic aortic regurgitation related to bioprosthesis degeneration and a pseudoaneurysm at the distal anastomotic site of the vascular graft. Due to the presence of several comorbidities, the patient had a combined transapical transcatheter aortic valve-in-valve implant and an ascending aorta endovascular repair.

Since the advent of TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement), the transapical surgical approach has been affirmed as a safe and effective alternative access for patients with unsuitable peripheral arteries. With the improvement of devices for transfemoral approach and the development of other alternative accesses, the number of transapical procedures has decreased significantly worldwide. The left ventricular apex, however, has proved to be a safe and valid alternative access for various other structural heart procedures such as mitral valve repair, mitral valve-in-valve or valve-in-ring replacement, transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR), transcatheter mitral paravalvular leak repair, and thoracic aorta endovascular repair (TEVAR).

During COVID-19 pandemic, protective measures such as social distancing and face masks posed a challenge in daily communication, in this context the elderly are one of the most at risk categories as widely exposed to hearing loss. This article focuses on how the COVID-19 pandemic affected verbal communication, especially on those people that even in normal conditions present an increased difficulty in speech perception. Special attention has been paid to hearing aids and cochlear implant users, these devices indeed can be affected by a speech intelligibility reduction and could be uncomfortable if used together with face masks.

Aim: To compare soft tissue dimensional changes and relative differences in soft and hard tissue volumes 4 months after single-tooth extraction and three different treatment modalities: spontaneous healing (SH) and alveolar ridge preservation by means of a deproteinized bovine bone mineral and a collagen matrix, with (IMPL/DBBM/CM) or without (DBBM/CM) immediate implant placement.

Materials And Methods: STL files from study casts obtained at baseline and after 4 months were matched to calculate buccal soft tissue linear and volumetric changes. DICOM files from CBCTs were superimposed to STL files allowing the evaluation of soft tissue thickness at baseline and 4 months.

Treatment of aortic arch aneurysm with standard open surgery is technically demanding, and associated morbidity and mortality are not insignificant. In high-risk patients, hybrid procedures with debranching and reimplantation or bypass of the aortic arch vessel followed by thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) in the aortic arch represent a valid alternative to open surgery. However, when the ascending aorta is mildly dilated, the risk of retrograde dissection increases sharply.

Aim: To radiographically evaluate the effect of immediate implant placement plus alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) with a deproteneized bovine bone mineral and a collagen matrix (IMPL/DBBM/CM) as compared to ARP (DBBM/CM) or spontaneous healing (SH) on vertical and horizontal bone dimensional changes after 4 months of healing.

Materials And Methods: Thirty patients requiring extraction of one single-rooted tooth or premolar were randomly assigned to IMPL/DBBM/CM, ARP DBBM/CM or SH. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans, performed before tooth extraction and after 4 months, were superimposed in order to assess changes in ridge height at the buccal and lingual aspect and in ridge width at 1 mm, 3 mm and 5 mm apical to the bone crest.

However, the use of commercially available stent graft in the ascending aorta remains off-label, and their excessive length often prevents their deployment in the ascending aorta.
