  • Combined chemoradiation therapy is the standard treatment for squamous cell anal cancer (SCAC), but many patients still face relapse, leading to invasive surgeries with significant side effects.
  • The study analyzed the EGFR gene and mutations in KRAS, BRAF, and PIK3CA in 84 SCAC patients, finding that 34% had increased EGFR gene copies, while some had mutations in KRAS and PIK3CA.
  • Understanding the EGFR pathway in SCAC could help identify patient subgroups for more tailored targeted therapies, improving treatment outcomes.

Because the tumor recurred after surgery and radiotherapy, we decided to further treat the patient with chemotherapy, in particular with temozolomide.
