Bimetallic PdCu nanoparticles with different Pd:Cu ratios and morphologies can be synthesized and immobilized on a variety of support materials. Accordingly, PdCu nanoparticles can be efficiently applied as heterogeneous catalysts in a large number of organic transformations including C-C coupling and cross-coupling reactions. As related to their favorable electronic and structural interactions, the catalytic performances of PdCu bimetallic nanoparticles may be superior to monometallic species.

The Ullmann reaction has been reported to be the first cross-coupling reaction performed by using a transition metal catalyst. This reaction has been initially considered as the copper-catalyzed homocoupling of aryl halides, leading to the formation of symmetrical biaryl compounds via the generation of novel C-C bonds. Although this reaction has been extensively studied in recent decades and valuable results have been achieved, there are still considerable efforts focused on the development of novel catalytic systems, mild reaction conditions, and extended substrate scope.

A novel counterion-coupled gemini (cocogem) surfactant, DBSJ, was synthetized via the 2:1 coupling reaction between 4-(2-dodecyl)benzenesulfonic acid (Lutensit A-LBS) and polypropyleneglycol-bis(2-aminopropyl) ether (Jeffamine D230). The surfactant had a polydispersity index of Mw/Mn = 1.04, as determined by electrospray-ionization mass spectrometry.

Here, we report on a new aspect of the adsorption of Br- on the surface of gold. The adsorption of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (C12TABr) from aqueous solutions onto macroporous gold particles was studied by continuous flow frontal analysis solid/liquid chromatography and flow adsorption microcalorimetry. The material balance and enthalpy balance of adsorption and the change in the solution pH were measured simultaneously.
