Twenty eight leiomyomas and one leiomyosarcoma were cytogenetically analysed and also examined for ras and myc oncoprotein expression. Chromosome alterations were found in seven leiomyoma cases. In four of them 12q14-15 was involved.

The ectopic production of HCG by non-trophoblastic tumors is well documented. Adenocarcinomas arising in the mammary gland have been shown to stain positively for the beta subunit of HCG using immunoperoxidase technique. In the present study we used the Monoclonal antibodies (M.

In the present paper we review the results of our study on the use of monoclonal antibodies Y13,259 to the ras p21 and MYC1 9E10 to the c-myc p62 oncoprotein products in human tumors and tumorlike conditions of the colorectum. A total of 78 tissue sections were analyzed immunohistochemically and revealed the following: 42 adenocarcinomas with 8 normal mucosae adjacent to the tumor, 25 adenomas (with or without dysplasia and with in situ carcinoma) and 3 hyperplastic polyps. Parallel tissue sections were used in order to compare ras and c-myc oncoproteins.

The examined material included: 27 normal and hyperplastic or dysplastic mucosae and 13 papillomas and transitional cell carcinomas, graded according to Mostofi's classification. Our results showed the following: the normal urothelium sections tended to be negative, while the umbrella cells from the superficial layer always expressed a higher degree of positivity.

Our results revealed overexpression of the H-ras transcripts in malignant compared to normal tissues, while in the same tumour specimens certain point mutations and other genetic changes have been found in the H-ras gene. In this paper we have investigated c-myc oncoprotein expression in the same tumour samples using an ELISA technique (Moore et al: Oncogene Res 2: 65-80, 1989).

Our material consisted of 50 breast cancer cases with negative axilla. From each lymph node two routine sections were reviewed.

Serum albumin binds to the FFA and by producing atoxic compounds it has a therapeutic effect on the syndrome. In this study we applied bovine albumin to 48 Sprague-Dawley rats which were previously submitted to intravenous infusions of FFA solutions (oleic, palmitic, stearic).

Out of 73 hysterectomies obtained we have examined ras p21 expression in separately made sections from the endometrium, the cervix and leiomyomas found in the same specimens. A total of 155 tissue sections were finally evaluated and included: 55 endometrial mucosae (normal, hyperplastic and atrophic), 13 leiomyomas, 60 cervicitis (mild, moderate and severe with or without dysplasia), 3 in situ and 7 invasive carcinoma of the cervix, 12 invasive adenocarcinoma of the endometrium and 5 endometrial adenocarcinomas, which involved the cervical canal.

The previously described monoclonal antibody Myc1-9E10 (1) which recognizes the p62 c-myc protein was used in paraffin tissue sections. A total of 101 cases of breast disease examined included 38 simple and complex cystic disease, 18 simple and hyperplastic fibroadenomas, 36 ductal and lobular carcinomas and 9 in situ carcinomas.

Two groups of women, the first called group "A" consisting of 384 women with cancer of the breast, and group "B", the control group of 400 women who had no abnormality in the breast, were studied and correlated for epidemiological, thermographic, mammographic, and anatomo-pathological parameters. The following epidemiological factors were studied: age, marital status, profession, age at menarche and at menopause, menstrual behaviour, age at the first pregnancy that went to term, parity (live and still births), type of delivery, length of breast feeding, number of abortions, use of hormones, and family history of cancer of the breast.

An immunohistochemical study of ras oncogene expression in human breast lesions was carried out using a monoclonal antibody, Y13 259, to the ras encoded p21 protein. A total of 75 cases of breast disease examined included: 33 simple and complex cystic disease; 22 simple and hyperplastic fibroadenomas; 18 ductal, lobular and mixed carcinomas and 2 in situ carcinomas. Most of the complex cystic disease, hyperplastic fibroadenomas and all types of carcinomas showed high p21 expression as indicated by staining intensity.

1,088 women with cancer were seen in a period of 4 1/2 years at the Cancer Centre of the Greek Social Security Department in Athens. The authors present their results as far as psychological stress influences the development of cancer of the breast in 813 patients (Group A) and in 685 women who did not have cancer of the breast (Group B). They were able to show that Group A had a positive correlation which was statistically very significant (p less than 0.

In contrast, the sis oncogene is not expressed significantly in either type of malignant or normal tissue. These results suggest that Harvey-ras oncogene may be specifically activated in the development of human malignant breast tumours.

In this study, we analyze breast biopsy material over a 5-year period and we compare the results of frozen-section diagnosis with the corresponding diagnosis of the permanent histologic sections. In this study, which represents the largest series in the available international literature, it is proven that frozen-section diagnosis of various breast lesions is a highly accurate procedure in spite of the difficulties facing the pathologist with the frequent borderline or premalignant lesions. The great responsibility of the pathologist is emphasized.

The DNase levels were compared to the histological diagnoses of the tumors. Serum and tissue DNase levels were found to be significantly increased in malignancies as compared to benign conditions.

Eight cases of a rare, distinctive variant of infiltrating mammary carcinoma featuring benign multinucleated osteoclast-like giant cells are reported. The multinucleated osteoclast-like giant cells are reported. The multinucleated giant cells were associated with ductal carcinoma in five cases and with infiltrating lobular carcinoma in three cases.
