Article Synopsis
  • Ovarian cancer (OC) is difficult to diagnose and has high relapse rates (up to 90% with standard chemotherapy), highlighting the need for new molecular markers to assess treatment response and disease progression.
  • This study investigated the resistance of three ovarian tumor cell lines (SKOV-3, TOV-21G, OV-90) to cisplatin and paclitaxel, finding that SKOV-3 was the most resistant to both drugs.
  • Notably, after cisplatin treatment, TNFRSF10D expression increased significantly in the resistant SKOV-3 cells, suggesting that this receptor could be a potential biomarker for chemoresistance in ovarian cancer.

Purpose: This study, conducted during the COVID-19 crisis, primarily aimed to compare the acute toxicity between conventional fractionated radiation therapy (CF-RT) with hypofractionated radiation therapy (HF-RT) among patients who underwent breast-conserving surgery or mastectomy in whom breast or chest wall and regional nodal irradiation (RNI) were indicated. The secondary endpoints were both acute and subacute toxicity, cosmesis, quality of life, and lymphedema features.

Methods: In this open and non-inferiority randomized trial, patients (n = 86) were randomly allocated 2:1 in the CF-RT arm (n = 33; 50 Gy/25 fractions ± sequential boost [10 Gy/5 fractions]) versus the HF-RT arm (n = 53; 40 Gy/15 fractions ± concomitant boost [8 Gy/15 fractions]).

By considering the reasons behind discontinuing assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment, several studies have indicated that 'stress' is an important issue, but the prevalence of stressors and stress responses, either acute or chronic, remains unclear. In this systematic review, we evaluated the characteristics, prevalence and causes of what was perceived and reported as 'stress' by couples who discontinued ART treatment. Electronic databases were systematically searched, and studies were considered eligible if they evaluated stress as a possible reason for ART discontinuation.
