This study investigated the mechanisms employed by exogenous dopamine application in alleviating chilling injury in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days. Our results indicated that dopamine treatment at 150 µM alleviated chilling injury in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days. By 150 µM dopamine application, higher SUMO E3 ligase (SIZ1) and target of rapamycin (TOR) genes expression accompanied by lower poly(ADP-Ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) and sucrose non-fermenting 1-related kinase 1 (SnRK1) genes expression was associated with higher salicylic acid, ATP, NADPH and proline accumulation in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days.

Introduction: Numerous epidemiological studies have demonstrated that consuming foods rich in polyphenols and flavonoids can have beneficial effects on various diseases, including arterial hypertension (HTN). Recent research from our laboratory has shown that certain flavonoids exhibit antihypertensive properties in several animal models of HTN. Our objective was to evaluate the effect of L.

This study investigated postharvest dopamine treatment efficiency in ameliorating chilling injury of banana fruits during storage at 7 ºC for 21 days. Our results showed that dopamine treatment at 150 µM promoted phenols and flavonoids biosynthesis acquired by higher phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) expression and activity concurrent with lower polyphenol oxidase (PPO) expression and activity leading to higher DPPH, FRAP, and ABTS radicals scavenging activity. In addition, dopamine treatment at 150 µM promoted endogenous proline biosynthesis by activating pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthetase (P5CS) and ornithine δ-aminotransferase (OAT) expression and activity concurrent with suppressing proline dehydrogenase (ProDH) expression and activity.

Background: This paper presents a novel approach to predict and map radon and thoron levels. We developed separate radon and thoron prediction maps for Ireland and introduced a system for producing high-resolution 3D radiation maps which may be used for planning purposes in residential areas, recycling and demolishing waste depots, and quarries of building and construction material. Additionally, we highlight the critical need to monitor thoron alongside radon in indoor surveys, as thoron's shorter half-life and higher energy levels may pose a greater health risk.

This paper presents novel configurations for additively manufactured lattice structures, including helical and elliptic designs, in addition to the pyramid base model. Functionally graded versions of the pyramid and elliptic lattice structures are developed by considering desirable relative densities in each layer. The lattice structures were manufactured using Ti-6Al-4V powder in a three-dimensional selective laser melting printer.

During postharvest life, intracellular sugar insufficiency accompanied by insufficient intracellular ATP and NADPH supply, intracellular ROS overaccumulation along with intracellular ABA accumulation arising from water shortage could be responsible for accelerating fruits and vegetables deterioration through promoting SnRK1 and SnRK2 signaling pathways while preventing TOR signaling pathway. By TOR and SnRK1 signaling pathways manipulation, sufficient intracellular ATP and NADPH providing, supporting phenols, flavonoids and anthocyanins accumulation accompanied by improving DPPH, FRAP, and ABTS scavenging capacity by enhancing phenylpropanoid pathway activity, stimulating endogenous salicylic acid accumulation and NPR1-TGA-PRs signaling pathway, enhancing fatty acids biosynthesis, elongation and unsaturation, suppressing intracellular ROS overaccumulation, and promoting endogenous sucrose accumulation could be responsible for chilling injury palliating, fungal decay alleviating, senescence delaying and sensory and nutritional quality preservation in fruits and vegetables. Therefore, TOR and SnRK1 signaling pathways manipulation during postharvest shelf life by employing eco-friendly approaches such as exogenous trehalose and ATP application or engaging biotechnological approaches such as genome editing CRISPR-Cas9 or sprayable double-stranded RNA-based RNA interference would be applicable for improving fruits and vegetables marketability.

This paper presents a comprehensive investigation of mesoporous Silica utilizing a multi-scale modeling approach under periodic boundary conditions integrated with machine learning algorithms. The study begins with Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to extract Silica's elastic properties and thermal conductivity at the nano-scale, employing the Tersoff potential. Subsequently, the derived material characteristics are applied to a series of generated porous Representative Volume Elements (RVEs) at the microscale.

Elastography is a medical imaging modality that enables visualization of tissue stiffness. It involves quasi-static or harmonic mechanical stimulation of the tissue to generate a displacement field which is used as input in an inversion algorithm to reconstruct tissue elastic modulus. This paper considers quasi-static stimulation and presents a novel inversion technique for elastic modulus reconstruction.

  • Chondrosarcoma is a rare malignant bone tumor, most commonly seen in adults, with less than 5% occurring in children and very few being extraskeletal types.
  • A 4-year-old girl had persistent pain and a mass in her labia majora, leading to multiple biopsies, initially diagnosed as soft tissue enchondroma but later confirmed as extraskeletal chondrosarcoma after complete excision.
  • This case is unique as it represents the first documented instance of conventional extraskeletal chondrosarcoma in a child, potentially arising from an earlier enchondroma, highlighting the need for further research in pediatric cases.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder, and timely diagnosis is crucial for early interventions. AD is known to have disruptive local and global brain neural connections that may be instrumental in understanding and extracting specific biomarkers. Previous machine-learning approaches are mostly based on convolutional neural network (CNN) and standard vision transformer (ViT) models which may not sufficiently capture the multidimensional local and global patterns that may be indicative of AD.

The mechanical properties and microstructure of brain tissue, as its two main physical parameters, could be affected by mechanical stimuli. In previous studies, microstructural alterations due to mechanical loading have received less attention than the mechanical properties of the tissue. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the effect of ex-vivo mechanical forces on the micro-architecture of brain tissue including axons and glial cells.

Production of functional recombinant antibody fragments in the periplasm of is a prerequisite step to achieve sufficient reagent for preclinical studies. Thus, the cost-effective and lab-scale production of antibody fragments demands the optimization of culture conditions. The culture conditions such as temperature, optical density (OD) at induction, induction time, and IPTG concentration were investigated to optimize the functional expression of a phage-derived scFv molecule using a design of experiment (DoE).

Here for the first time, a real-time electrochemical assay on unprocessed blood was designed to detect the presence of cancer in patients. The system has been based on the recently approved pathway, which indicates that the abundance of immature and mature low-density neutrophils (LDNs) with reduced ROS production in peripheral blood is increased with the presence of active cancer tumors. Reduced ROS/HO released from LDNs play the main role in determining the ROS/HO levels of peripheral blood.
