Bacillus coagulans, when grown on casein at 20°C, produced an inducible, metalloprotease of 28 kDa at 1.6 U/mg cell protein. (NH4)2SO4 at 2 g/l decreased enzyme production irrespective of carbon source.

Random urine samples of 352 children in the age group of 5-12 yrs were studied for urinary calcium-creatinine ratio (Uca/Ucr mg/mg). None had any predisposing factor for secondary hypercalciuria. Calcium and creatinine both were estimated by colorimetric method.

The purpose of this study was to correlate the latex gloves' susceptibility to hydration to its development of glove expansion or irreversible elongation of the latex glove. During hydration, the Micro-Touch glove exhibited significantly more creep strain than did the Biogel gloves. Similarly, the Micro-Touch glove exhibited glove growth, while the Biogel glove maintained a uniform fit during hydration.

Measurements of ozone in the urban environment of Delhi were carried out at ground level and heights of 23m, 51m, 117m and 153m at four different sites synoptically during 1989-90. A considerable ozone build up was observed all over Delhi and a significant vertical variation in its concentration was observed at all sites. At any given time O3 levels were lowest at ground level and invariably increased with increasing distance from the ground.

Cirrhosis has been associated with a variety of glomerular lesions that generally include deposits of IgA in the mesangium. However, loss of renal function secondary to IgA deposition in cirrhotics is infrequent. An unusual patient who developed rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis followed by leukocytoclastic vasculitis with IgA deposition on skin biopsy is presented.

Nitroblue tetrazolium test (NBT) and bactericidal activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes was studied in 40 patients with iron deficiency anaemia (aged 0-12 years). NBT test had a significant correlation with serum iron (P less than 0.001) in all cases of iron deficiency anemia.

The neon beam at 250 MeV/nucleon from the Bevalac at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory is bombarded in nuclear emulsion. The experimental interaction cross section of the neon beam in emulsion is 1078 +/- 35 mb, in agreement with the calculations from the modified Bradt and Peters formula. The secondary fragments were identified and their partial production cross sections were calculated.

Heavy ions used for biomedical studies fragment when they pass through matter. It is known that different fragments cause different types of biological damage. In this paper, results pertaining to different kinds of secondary fragments produced by a 28Si beam at 463 MeV/nucleon in its interaction with nuclear emulsion are presented.
