Terrestrial systems are a significant sink for plastic contamination, including nano- and microplastics (NMPs). To date, limited information is available about the transfer of NMPs up the food web via trophic transfer, however, concerns about this exposure pathway for invertebrates and higher-level organisms have been raised. We aim to examine and quantify the trophic transfer of europium doped polystyrene nanoplastics (Eu-PS; NPs) within a terrestrial food chain.

The poor prognosis and the lack of effective pharmacological treatments are imputable to a remarkable histological and molecular heterogeneity of GBM, which has led, to date, to the failure of precision oncology and targeted therapies. Identification of molecular biomarkers is a paradigm for comprehensive and tailored treatments; nevertheless, biopsy sampling has proved to be invasive and limited.

In fact, the morbidity and mortality of treatments may exceed that of the AVM's natural history. None of the classifications and scores for bAVM allows to predict the risk of bleeding.

Such techniques still face some critical challenges in moving towards clinic application. The main objective of this work is to present a comprehensive review of studies using CNN architectures to classify brain tumors using MR images with the aim of identifying useful strategies for and possible impediments in the development of this technology.

Here we describe a new patient presenting with an isolated olfactory schwannoma, highlighting the importance of multiple ancillary tests to approach the intracranial lesion of the anterior skull base, including electron microscopy. We also discuss the enigmatic origin of this entity, moving from the normal histology of the olfactory nerve compared to a peripheral nerve.

Methods: We reviewed, according to PRISMA guidelines, available studies adopting AI in different fields of neuro-oncology including neuro-radiology, pathology, surgery, radiation therapy, and systemic treatments.
Purpose: To assess utility of computed tomography perfusion (CTP) protocols for selection of patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) for reperfusive treatments and compare the diagnostic accuracy (ACC) in predicting follow-up infarction, using time-to-maximum (Tmax) maps.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed consecutive AIS patients evaluated for reperfusive treatments at comprehensive stroke center, employing a multimodal computed tomography. To assess prognostic accuracy of CTP summary maps in predicting final infarct area (FIA) in AIS patients, we assumed the best correlation between non-viable tissue (NVT) and FIA in early and fully recanalized patients and/or in patients with favorable clinical response (FCR).
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate if vessel-wall magnetic resonance imaging (VW-MRI) could differentiate among primary headaches disorders, such as migraine and cluster headache (CH), and detect the presence of neurogenic inflammation.
Background: The pathophysiology of primary headaches disorders is complex and not completely clarified. The activation of nociceptive trigeminal afferents through the release of vasoactive neuropeptides, termed "neurogenic inflammation," has been hypothesized.
Antiangiogenic agents can induce a distinct MRI pattern in glioblastoma, characterized by a decrease in the contrast enhancement on T1-weighted images and a simultaneous hyperintensity on T2-weighted or fluid-attenuated inversion recovery images.

Recent investigations evidence the central role of subcortical damage on the post-stroke brain and behavior reorganization. We have conducted an exploratory study combining anatomical lesion analysis, functional analysis of resting state fMRI, and behavioral assessment with focus on exploration as represented by SEEKING.

The aim of the study is to determine the frequency of transverse sinus stenosis in these headache patients resistant to preventive treatments and to verify whether this is a useful finding for identifying patients with intracranial hypertension. This is an observational study.

Among second-line therapy, choices could be bevacizumab and nitrosoureas depending on National Agencies approval. Moreover, validated neuroradiological predictors of outcome are lacking. Recently, the concept of early tumor shrinkage (ETS) has been developed to better assess the ability of treatments in determining a rapid and remarkable tumor response.

In our study, we compare intravoxel incoherent motion with dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging in the quantification of tumour tissue blood perfusion in 28 patients affected by brain tumours, highlighting the issues encountered during the acquisition set-up and post-processing steps. Intravoxel incoherent motion is a new imaging tool and an alternative technique to dynamic susceptibility contrast-magnetic resonance imaging which is of considerable interest at present.

Methods: Eligible patients were randomized 2:1 to receive bevacizumab (10 mg/kg every 2 weeks) or fotemustine (75 mg/m(2) on days 1, 8, and 15, then 100 mg/m(2) every 3 weeks after a 35-day interval).
The standard treatment in children with average-risk medulloblastoma (MB) is reduced-dose radiotherapy (RT) followed by chemotherapy. However, in adults, there is no agreement on the use of adjuvant chemotherapy. We performed a retrospective analysis of adult MB patients with average-risk disease, defined as no postsurgical residual (or ≤1.

Methods: Data on all new cases of primary brain tumors observed from January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2010, in adults residing within the Emilia-Romagna region were recorded in a prospective registry in the Project of Emilia Romagna on Neuro-Oncology (PERNO). Based on the data from this registry, a prospective evaluation was made of the treatment efficacy and outcome in GBM patients.
The aim of the current study was to investigate basic emotions and attachment in a sample of 86 stroke patients. We included a control group of 115 orthopedic patients (matched for age and cognitive status) without brain lesions to control for unspecific general illness effects of a traumatic recent event on basic emotions and attachment. In order to measure basic emotions and attachment style we applied the Affective Neuroscience Personality Scale (ANPS) and the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ).

Multimodal treatment involving surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy can improve the prognosis of this disease, and recent advances in molecular biology have allowed the identification of molecular subgroups (WNT, SHH, Groups 3 and 4), each of which have different cytogenetic, mutational and gene expression signatures, demographics, histology and prognosis. The present review focuses on the state of the art for adult medulloblastoma treatment and on novel molecular advances and their future implications in the treatment of this disease.

Clinical, neuroradiologic, and follow-up data from 92 pituitary adenomas, including 59 PRL cell adenomas and 33 ACTH-functioning pituitary adenomas, were collected. The LGALS3 expression was analyzed by both immunohistochemistry and quantitative real time-polymerase chain reaction, whereas RUNX1 and RUNX2 were analyzed by quantitative real time-polymerase chain reaction only.
